Kendra rubbed Timothyâs head âYou wonât understand. Iâll help you take a bath, then go to bed early Iâll send you to your mother after I leave the part-time shift tomorrow.â
âOkay, Auntie. Thank you.â
Timothy looked at Kendra gratefully.
Just then, there was a sound from the door. Timothy shuddered. He did not want to see the mean Ella.
âDonât be afraid.â Kendra touched his face. âItâs my husband.â
Timothy nodded.
âKendra, where are you?â A drunk manâs voice came from outside the bedroom.
Kendraâs expression changed, and she murmured with fear, âWhy did he drink so much again?â
âAuntie.â Timothy also tensed up. âDo you need my help?â
âNo need.â Kendra squatted and whispered to him, âStay in the room. Donât go out.â
Timothy nodded obediently, but he could see that Kendraâs face was already pale. She was afraid of the drunk man outside.
Kendra opened the bedroom door and went out, only to be grabbed by her husband, Henry Grant.
âIâve been calling you for a long time. What are you doing? Iâve been exhausted all day, and you didnât get me water!â
Iâll get it for you.â
Kendra trembled. She grabbed Henryâs hand to prevent him from increasing his strength.
Henry threw her on the sofa.
Kendra got up, quickly poured him water, then put it on the side table.
Henry did not drink the water but put his arm around her waist.
âAh!â Kendra yelled in a low voice, âDonât mess around. I have to coax the kid to sleep.â
âYou rejected me?â Henry said viciously, âWhy didnât you reject slept with me, you would still be a midwife at Brookwater Wellness Center!â
Kendra refuted, âIâd rather go back to being a nurse! i donât want to be at home full-time!â
Henry slapped her on the sofa in anger. âYou spend my money without doing anything. I only ask you to stay home and look after the kid. How dare you complain so much? If I had known you gave birth to a girl, I wouldnât have married you!â
Kendra covered her face but did not dare to say anything. Her tears fell.
âWhy are you crying?â Henry carried her over and tried to tear her clothes.
Kendra begged, âDonât! The kid is going to bed soon.â
Henry slapped her again. âDonât talk about that brat!â
He pinned Kendrá down on the sofa and was about to be rude to her.
âNo! Please! The kid isnât asleep yet!â
âI said donât talk about the child! Canât I touch my wife?â Henry lowered his head and bit her.
Suddenly, a leather shoe hit his head, and he felt pain.
Henry covered his head and looked back in astonishment. He saw a little boy standing behind him.
The little boy was handsome with an extraordinary appearance.
Henry could tell Timothy was not an ordinary child at first sight. But it was Timothy who hit him with a leather shoe.
âKendralâ Henry slapped Kendra hard, then turned around and grabbed Timothy.
âNo wonder you didnât serve me. You hid this brat!â
While saying that, he was about to throw Timothy to the ground hard.
âNo!â Kendra knelt to Henry. âThis child is homeless. Iâve temporarily taken him in. Donât hurt him!â
âHomeless?â Henry narrowed his eyes. He looked at Timothy and asked, âLittle brat, where are you from? Is your dad rich?â
Timothy spat at him. âBad guy! I wonât tell you!â
âHow dare you scold me!â Henry raised his arms. âIâll throw you to death!â
âNo, please donât hurt him!â Kendra hugged Henryâs leg.
âGo away!â Henry kicked her away.
âAuntie!â Timothy shouted, âDonât beg him! Iâm not afraid!â
âYou little brat!â Henry grabbed Timothy and threw him viciously.
âTimothy!â Kendra lunged and caught Timothy in the tight space.
âTimothy, are you okay? You scared me!â
