Emmeline rolled her eyes at him. âWhy should you care?â
âSorry, I shouldnât have been annoyed at you earlier,â Abel said softly.
Emmeline did not reply. She crouched and continued to tidy up the childrenâs toys on the floor.
âLet me do it. You should rest for a while,â Abel said.
Emmeline continued to ignore him, though a thought popped up in her head.
The room is a mess, but why are the snacks on the table arranged so properly?
Itâs as though the children deliberately put it there in case of emergencies.
Also, the security system of the mansion is very advanced. Why would it suddenly break down?
Could the triplets be behind this?
Half an hour later, the door remained locked.
Abel called Luca again. âIs it fixed?â
Luca sounded frustrated. âNo. The technician thought the problem would fix itself after a reboot, but it doesnât seem to be the case!â
âWhat the heck is going on?â Abel was beginning to sound annoyed. âCanât he fix it?â
âAsk him how long it will take!â
Luca covered the phone and asked the technician, who was busy at work.
The technician was extremely flustered. âIâll have to reinstall the entire system and reboot it. Itâll take at least another twelve hours.â
Twelve hours!
Luca was shocked. He braced himself before telling that to Abel.
âTwelve hours?â Abel could feel his head spin.
Am I going to stay in this room for the next twelve hours? I still need to work!
âArgh! This is ridiculous!â Abel tossed his phone on the bed.
âTwelve hours?â Emmelineâs face turned pale when she heard that.
She did not want to stay in the same room with Abel for so long!
She could guess that Moon was behind the malfunction, but she did not tell that to Abel.
Moon was a master hacker, and Star must be behind the neatly arranged snacks.
Star was a clean freak like that.
She thought for a while before sending a message to Moon.
âIs this your handiwork?â
Moon was shocked when he saw his motherâs message âSun, Star, Timothy! Mommy thinks that I did it!â
âWhatever you say, donât admit to it!â Sun and Timothy said.
âBut good boys shouldnât tell lies.â
âNot when theyâre told in good faith,â Star said. âIf lying means that Daddy and Mommy get to stay together, then you should lie all you want. Weâre all behind you.â
âYes, weâre all behind you!â
âOkay then.â Moon pouted. In his reply to Emmeline, he denied hacking the system.
Emmeline saw the reply. Was I wrong in accusing him? The triplets never lie.
She placed her phone on the coffee table, and it immediately began to ring.
Emmeline saw Benjaminâs name on the screen.
She did not want to pick it up, but she saw Abel tilting his head to see who was calling.
âBenjamin York?â Abel mumbled sullenly.
Emmeline rolled her eyes and answered the call.
âEmma, itâs getting late, and itâs still raining. Sam and Daisy are wondering where you and the triplets are. Theyâre very worried!â
a Benjamin said.
âThe triplets and I are stuck here. I donât think we can leave tonight,â Emmeline said awkwardly.
Benjamin was silent for a few seconds. You have an umbrella and a car. The rain shouldnât hold you back, right?
âIâll go and save you, Emma!â Benjamin exclaimed.
âThereâs no need for that,â Emmeline said calmly. âThe children are fine, but⦠Iâm stuck in the room.
Thereâs something wrong with the security system, and I canât get out.â
âShould I go over and help you?â Benjamin asked.
Emmeline shot a glance at Abel. âNah.â
âI get it,â Benjamin said. âMr. Ryker should be there. Alright, call me if you need anything.â
âMm.â Emmeline nodded and hung 1.
âNot bad at all! You two seem to be progressing just fine. Heâs already calling you âEmma,â Abel said.
Emmeline glared at Abel. âWhat do you mean?â
âTch, nothing. I was just saying.â
