mean, as friends, of course! In our friendship, Iâm the one in charge!â Benjamin hastily explained.
âNot this time. If you donât let me do what I want, Iâll throw a tantrum,â Emmeline said.
Benjamin sighed.
Well, Iâm glad sheâs in good spirits again.
âAlright then, but you have to take good care of yourself. I donât want you to get hurt.â
âI know. Donât worry!â Emmeline patted his shoulder. âI have three children at home. I wonât risk my life!â
Benjamin spoke to the director before going back to his office.
âIâll pick you up when youâre done, Emma,â Benjamin said through the car window, Emmeline waved at him, looking gallant in her knightâs armor. âMm, see you later!â
She did a good job, and the shooting ended ahead of schedule.
The director debriefed the crew, and Emmeline said goodbye to him.
âYouâll be back tomorrow, right? Weâll discuss your hourly rates,â the director said.
Do I get paid too?
Emmeline had not considered that. She was only doing it for fun.
She also realized she had not been thinking of Abel for the past three hours.
âOf course. Iâll be back tomorrow!â Emmeline waved happily at the director.
After stepping out of the directorâs tent, she realized it was raining heavily.
Emmeline sought cover at the âhotelâ entrance and was going to give Benjamin a call.
âEmma!â
A car stopped in front of the âhotel.â The window rolled down, and a head stuck out.
âCome in! Iâll give you a ride!â
It was Adrien.
Emmeline was surprised.
It was the first time Emmeline had seen him since she took away his manhood.
Suddenly, she felt ashamed of herself.
She could have easily reversed Adrienâs problems, but she thought she had to break his habit.
After all, he was the father of the triplets, and she did not want their father to be a playboy.
âAdrien? Why are you here?â
Emmeline wanted to go to the car, but the rain was too heavy.
Adrien came out of the car with an umbrella and went up next to Emmeline.
âMy company has a film shoot here. I was checking on the progress,â Adrien said while shaking off droplets of rainwater on his pants.
Emmeline remembered that Ryker Group was involved in show business too, and Adrien was the general manager of that subsidiary.
Emmeline looked at Adrien mischievously. âNot bad, Adrien. Youâre finally committed to your job.â
Adrien blushed. âItâs all your fault!â
âWait, why is it my fault?â Emmeline said.
âEver since we went to the hospital, I canât perform anymore. What else can I do other than work?â Adrien said.
Emmeline chuckled. âLooks like it was a blessing in disguise!â
âYou canât say that. It was agonizing at first. Iâve only gotten used to it,â Adrien said.
âYouâre still young and energetic. Who knows if youâll recover one day?â Emmeline said.
Adrien leaned close to Emmeline. âIf I ever recover one day, are things still possible between us?
After all, Iâm the father of the triplets!â
Emmeline turned her head and looked into the rain. Abelâs image appeared in the distant mist.
And I thought I had just forgotten about him!
Adrienâs words triggered Emmelineâs memories again.
Emmeline slowly shook her head. âNo, itâs impossible.â
âWhy not? Wonât you think of your children?â
âItâs not about that.â Emmeline frowned. âYou should know why.â
Adrien was silent for a moment. âI know. You canât forget Abel.â
ââ¦â Why isnât the rain stopping?
âBut Abel will marry Alana soon, and they have Timothy!â
ââ¦â And the wind is so cold!
âI can wait for you,â Adrien said. âIâll wait for you until you give up on Abel and accept me!â
