Chapter 34: Chapter Thirty-Three: Questions

The Mistress of King Henry VIIIWords: 5392

Queen Victoria

April 13th, 1519

Two days ago Henry had taken Catherine and her household prisoner for trying to poison me. He had only let go of only twenty people out of her one hundred households. Meaning eighty people agreed with her to kill me.

I sat in my chair looking out my window as I held my bible and prayer beads Mary had given me when she came back to court trying to pray.

I had so many questions for Catherine and why she would try to do this to me. I heard the door opened and I looked to see Henry come in.

"Done already?" I asked and Henry sighed as he sat across from me and loosened the ties of his tunic.

"For now. Catherine is just being plain stubborn."

"I wish to speak to Catherine," I said and Henry froze as he looked towards me.

"What?"

"I wish to speak with Catherine because I want to know why. Maybe she will not speak with you because she still loves you, Henry. But maybe she will tell me." I said as I closed my bible and set it in front of me.

"I have prayed for two days about this Henry. I wish to speak to her." I said and he stared at me for a moment before nodding.

"Fine, at two when I return I will take you with me." He said and I smiled before looking down at my prayer beads.

"What do we tell Mary? It is death for trying to kill the King and or Queen." I stated as I placed my beads down and stood up placing a hand on my stomach and rubbed it.

"We will tell her the truth when she gets old enough. Right now she is still upset over Catherine yelling at her." Henry stated and he took my goblet and sipped from it.

"We have enough food and drinks Henry. Get your own."

I held onto Henry's arm as he led me up the spiral staircase in the Tower. Charles and Julien walked behind us in case I lost my balance and Henry didn't catch me.

We stopped on the third floor on the second door on the right and Henry nodded at the guard.

"Your Majesties." The guard said as he bowed his head to us before opening the door.

"I will be standing out here with Charles but Julien will go inside with you," Henry said as he pressed a kiss to my forehead. I nodded as I took my hand away from his arm and followed Julien inside the room.

The door closed behind us and Julien stood with his eyes folded by the door. My gaze swept across the room and stopped when I saw Catherine standing from her chair by the fire with two ladies with her.

"Pues mira lo lejos que has caído." (Well look how far you have fallen) I said and Catherine glared at me.

"Henry never had tasters for me. So you must know how shocked I was when I found out the taster died instead of you." She hissed an I raised an eyebrow at her as I stepped closer to her.

"So it was you? You confess?"

"Of course it was me you imbecile! No mereces ser Reina." (You do not deserve to be Queen!) She said and I rolled my eyes as I stared at her.

"But yet I wear the crown and had my own coronation! I am Queen while you sit here waiting for your death! Why Catherine? It is not my fault Henry fell in love with me and my children lived." I hissed and Catherine shot me a look as she went to step closer but her lady stopped her.

"I had a sweet boy who lived for only one month and was taken away from me. You, a mere child, come to my court and do what I have failed to do." She said and I raised an eyebrow at her.

"I am not a child Catherine. I am Queen Victoria Cambridge-Tudor of England. I am the mother of the long-awaited Prince Edward Jonathan Tudor, Prince of Wales and the beloved step-mother of Princess Royal, Princess Mary Tudor." I hissed as I stepped towards her and placed my hand on my swollen belly.

"And I am carrying either the next Duke of York or a Princess who will give us a wonderful bond with another country. I came into this court and made it mine. And I will watch from my window as they march you to that platform and kill you for trying to kill me." I snapped as I turned around and made my way to the door.

As Julien opened it for me I quickly turned back around and stared at Catherine for a moment who looked like she was in shock.

"Que Dios se apiade de tu alma." (May God have mercy on your soul) I said before I wrapped my cloak around me and stepped out of the room.

Henry stood straight when he saw me and I inhaled before looking at him.

"I only want one thing," I whispered as he stepped closer to me.

"Anything, name it and it shall be done."

"I want her gone by the time we go to Hampton Court but the children will be nowhere near here," I said before Julien offered me his arm and began leading me down the stairs. Once we reached the ground I broke away from Julien and inhaled deeply.

"The Tower was too much?" Morgana asked and I turned to see her leaning against the wall with Emelia right beside her.

"Too tight. I do not know how Catherine isn't losing her mind." I said as I lifted the hood onto my head and we began making our way to the carriage.

"Well, she still believes what she did was right. That is how." Julien said as he opened the carriage door for me before offering me his hand and helping me inside.

"Shall we wait for His Majesty?" The footmen asked and I glanced to see if Henry was anywhere near us.

"No, he can ride along with the Duke of Suffolk. I want to go home." I ordered as everyone climbed into the carriage and the footmen began his journey back home.
