Ch34: I Was Beat Up By A Gang Of Evil Dwarfs While Hanging On For Food

"Its been three days," I tell Alex as I furiously shove a piece of toast in my mouth. "They're not back and Josh hasn't even bothered to call. I texted him that I had a surprise for him and he texted back nothing."

"He's a terrible person," Alex says sarcastically.

"I'm being serious,"I smack him. "He could at least call to let us know he's fine."

"Stop worrying," Alex rolls his eyes. "If something had happened Vincent would've told us."

"You're right," I nod, but I reach for my phone. "I should call just to make sure."

"Elliana," Alex grabs my phone."They will call If something happens."

"We're home," a voice yells and I jump out of my seat my heart pounding in my chest.

"They're here," Alex smiles patting my shoulder. "I bet they got here safely."

"This is where you live?" a female voice questions.

"We do indeed," I hear his voice and I smile.

"Josh," I walk out the kitchen and I can see his back, he's facing Janet.

Her red hair is thrown in a messy high pony tail and it seems brighter than the last time I saw her. She's wearing a white V-neck shirt, black ripped jeans and black sturdy combat boots.

"Hey Elliana," he turns around and I see a huge black bruise surrounding his brown eye that is currently completely red with purple.

"What happened?" I ask placing my hand on his cheek. "Who hit you?"

"Elliana," Vincent says and I turn to see him for the first time.

"What happened?" I glare at him.

"It was an accident," Janet says casually.

"Did you hit him?" I exclaim and i'm about to make my way towards her, but Josh stops me.

"I'm fine Princess," he smiles. "She didn't hit me one of her men did."

"Calm your guard dog down Joshie," Janet smirks at me and It only pissed me off further.

Joshie.

What is a Joshie?

"I will kick her ass," I say under my breath and Josh chuckles.

"Are you jealous?" he asks and I glare at him.

"I'm pissed that you got punched in the face," I frown.

Out of all places, why the face?

"I'm fine thanks for asking," Vincent says and I turn to look at him.

"You don't have a huge bruise in your eye," I say before pointing at Janet. "Besides Strawberry Shortcake over there wouldn't let a single thing happen to you."

"What did you call me?" Janet glares at me moving closer towards me.

"You heard what I said,"I smirk.

"Come on Elliana," Alex says as he walks out the kitchen. "Just ignore her."

We both glare at each other and I can tell Josh is starting to get nervous waiting for either one of us to begin the fight.

"Fine," I smile, but my eyes don't leave Janet. "I'll try to be civil."

"If she's civil than so am I," Janet smiles tightly and we continue to glare at each other.

"I'll show you around," Vincent says to Janet.

"I'll be back in a few Joshie," She says her voiced laced with bitterness and I smile at her.

"I want to rip her hair out of her skull," I say as soon as she up the stairs. "I don't know who Chuckie Finster thinks she is?"

"Calm down shorty," Alex laughs. "She's here to help and that's all that matters, right?"

"Right," I nod.

I'm sitting outside the house on the front steps staring at my phone wondering whether I should try calling my parents again or not.

They told me not to come for thanksgiving.

"Hey," a voice says and I look up to see Cameron standing in front of me with his hands shoved in his pockets. "Can I sit?"

"If I say no you'll sit anyways," I exhale.

"I'll take that as a yes," he sits next to me. "I'm going to be going back to Colorado and I think you deserve to know the truth from me."

I turn to look at him considering whether I want to know anything that he has to say or not.

"The day of the accident was not the first time I met Lilo," he says not giving me a chance to answer, but I'm intrigued. "We knew very little about each other and talked a few times, but that was enough for me to know that she was a great person. One time a friend of mine invited her to a party and we went to go pick her at your house which is how I knew where she lived. . . The morning of the accident I had something terrible happen to me, and I'm not excusing my actions because nothing can excuse what I did, but it led to me drinking at a party later that day. So once I was already drunk I decided to go see Lilo and drove towards yours house. A man was crossing the road and I switched lanes to avoid him, but I ended up on the wrong side of the road. That's when I hit her."

He knew her.

"You knew my sister?" I ask tears falling freely down my face and he nods.

"She use to talk about you all the time," he smiles. "About how good of a fighter you were and how she wished she could be more like you."

"Tell me more," I look at him. "What else did she say?"

"She said you were kind, smart, and she was jealous of you," he states. "Lilo said you were always good at everything you did. She also hated doing MMA."

"She did?" I scoff. "Then why did she keep doing it?"

"Because she said you loved it," he looks at me. "She knew her parents only let you do it because she wanted to do it too so she stayed quiet."

Oh god, I miss her so much.

She knew him and she told him things about her. Things that I didn't even know which means she trusted him. Meaning she liked him at least enough to open up.

I turn to look at him and I try to see what she saw, but the only thought that comes to my mind is that he killed her and got away with it.

"How did you do it?" I glare at him. "You should be in prison and you're not. So how did you do it?"

"My family," he looks down at his hands "has a lot of money and power. Specifically my father who made sure to pay off the entire hospital, any witnesses, and the police station. . .I know you're going to find it hard to believe, but I tried to turn myself in multiples times. It was useless because everyone refused to talk about the incident and when I mentioned it no one dared to do something about it. So I'm completely sober and I'm trying to learn to live with the guilt of what I did. . . I'm so sorry Elliana for what I took from you and nothing I could ever do will make up for it. Just know that I am truly sorry."

I can feel the tears streaming down my face and I continue looking at him wondering whether I should punch him in the face or just walk away.

But a thought invades my mind; Lilo trusted him.

She use to say something, I always rolled my eyes at her when she said it.

Don't give away your trust Elliana. I only trust those who have earned it and it takes a while to earn this gals trust.

I can still hear her voice in my head saying the words.

So I make a choice.

"Thank you," I stand up extending my hand out to help him get up and he takes it "for having the guts and decency to tell me the truth."

"She gave me this necklace," he removes a brown chain with a purple rock on it that has an elephant engraved on it from around his neck. "It was suppose to keep the bad vibes away or something like that. . .You should have it."

I remember the day we got that necklace and how much she liked it.

She loves elephants.

Loved Elephants.

"No," I shake my head. "She gave it to you so you should keep it."

"Thanks," he smiles.

"I don't understand," I hear Janet's voice as I enter the house and I mentally roll my eyes. "What is the point of this challenge?"

As I walk into the living room I spot everyone hanging out around the couch laughing and I give them a strange look.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"We're doing a challenge to see who has to buy dinner," Alex says and I nod.

"We always argue about food," I laugh. "So what's the challenge?"

"We're going to go the park and see who can hang off the monkey bars the longest," Josh grins. "First one to fall has to buy dinner and the last one to fall chooses what we eat."

"I'm in," I smile "and when I win I think I want . . . Sushi."

"An In-and-Out burger," Janet smiles. "I haven't had one since I was a freshman."

"A burrito," Josh nods.

"Pizza," Alex shrugs "with extra cheese."

"Mexican food," Vincent says "like some enchiladas or something."

"You losers are going down," Janet glares at everyone. "I've had to hang off a pole that was sticking out of my apartment window to hide myself for an entire hour."

"We all know i'm going to win," Alex smirks. "I'm the-"

"Super fantastically successful and really famous champion wrestler?" Vincent asks. "Yeah, we get it."

"I was going to say strongest," Alex smirks "but the way you said it just makes me seem so much hotter."

"You're all such grass asses," I roll my eyes.

"What the hell is a grass ass?" Janet asks.

***

"Just give up already," Josh yells in between breaths and I can feel my arms beginning to burn, but I grasp the metal pole tightly.

We're all currently hanging off the monkey bars and it's been approximately five minutes, but no one has given up.

"You give up," I yell back. "I have arms of steel and they refuse to let go."

"Dude that cloud looks like a monkey eating a banana," Alex laughs and I smirk.

"Oh I wanna see it," I chirp. "Which one is it?"

"The one over there," he yells.

"Which one?" I question. "I don't see it."

"The one next to the cloud that looks like a cotton ball," Alex states and I roll my eyes.

"Is he always this smart?" Janet chuckles.

"Today is a special occasion," I joke. "Alex just point at the cloud."

I turn to look towards him and see that he's actually considering pointing, but then realization hits.

"I see what you're doing," he glares at me. "You want me to point so that i'll fall and lose."

"It almost worked," I smile sheepishly.

"Hey," a kid yells and we all look down to see a small boy with an incredibly angry look on his face.

"What's up little dude?" Josh asks and the boy glares at him.

"I want to use the monkey bars," he crosses his arms.

"Sorry kid," Vincent says. "We got here first."

"I said I want to use the monkey bars," he screams. "You're hogging them."

"Who's kid is this?" Alex asks loudly, but no one says anything. "Look kid we're in the middle of something important. Why don't you go build a sandcastle while we finish?"

"My mom says blonde people are stupid," the little kids sticks his tongue out.

"That was mean," I glare at him. "Kids shouldn't say that to other people."

"I don't think you're stupid because your blonde Alex," Vincent turns to look at Alex. "I think each one comes separately."

"Exactly," Josh nods. "It is very wrong of you to judge Alex's stupidity based on his hair color because that's called discrimination."

"You're a stupid dwarf head," the kids glares at Vincent before turning to Josh "and you're a dumb shit head."

"He called you a dumb shit head," I laugh.

"You're an ugly fat squirrel," he points at me and then turns to look at Janet.

"What?" she barks glaring holes into his head and the kid shakes his head before running off.

"Little grass ass said I was a squirrel," I frown. "I mean I do have chubby cheeks, but i'm no fucken squirrel."

I can feel my arms burn and my hands get sweaty, but I ignore the feeling and concentrate on grasping the pole tightly.

"Janet scared the shit out of the little booger," Josh laughs. "The kid ran so fast."

"It's them," we hear the little boy yell and we see a group of kids holding what seems to be water guns.

There's three little boys with boogers dripping down their nose and four little girls holding guns that are bigger than they are.

Each one glaring at us and prepared to fight like this was some kind only war.

"Are they holding water guns?" I ask and everyone nods looking at the kids with uncertainty.

"Shoot them" the boy that has run off yells and all the little kids begin shooting water at us.

"Shit that's cold," I hear Josh yell and before I know he lets go falling harshly on the ground. That doesn't stop the monsters from shooting him on the sand.

I can feel the water hitting my body and I close my eyes focusing on the sole purpose of holding on to the pole.

"Holy fuck," Vincent curses and I open my eyes to see falling towards the ground.

"Don't let go," I hear Janet yell as if trying to convince herself to stay strong.

"We shouldn't give up," I yell back at her. "That's what they want."

My clothes begins to feel heavy from all the cold water it absorbed and my hands feel numb, but i refuse to let go.

"Water got in my eye," Alex screams. "I'm trying to hold on, but it burns!"

"Don't give up Alex," Janet and I yell, but I see him let go before he falls down as the kids continue to shoot him.

"The pole is getting slippery," I say as my hands begin to slip, but I grip on tight to the pole while closing my eyes to shield them from the water.

Suddenly the water stops and I open my eyes. The kids stand there realizing they ran out of water and I begin to feel victorious.

"Suckers," I stick my tongue out at them and Janet laughs probably feeling victorious too.

"Balls," the little boy yells and the kids take off their backpacks opening them.

"Balls?" I ask. "What does that mean?"

"Throw them," the kid yells and all the kids begin launching small plastic bouncy balls at us.

"Fuck," Janet screams and I watch her fall to the ground. "Little bitch hit eye."

I see the ball come towards me and before I know it I feel a pounding pain on my nose causing me to let of of the pole.

"Shit," I scream as I fall towards the ground landing hard on the sand below me.

"Let's get out of here," Josh says and we all nod before running off the balls still flying towards us.

***

"How the hell do you get that many bouncy balls?" Janet asks and I laugh.

"I have no idea," I say as I take a seat next to her on the couch.

"Is this how everyday is for you?" she asks and I shrug.

"Not everyday," I say "but the guys are definitely a lot of fun."

"I had more fun today than i've had in the past four years," Janet smiles. "Back home we don't get to do any of this. We're just trying to make it through the day without dying."

"I can only imagine," I frown "but life doesn't have to be that hard, you know?"

"It does for me," she states. "I use to just want to be left alone, but after what they did to my family. I want revenge because my family deserves that much."

"My sister was killed by a drunk driver," I tell her.  "I met the guy that killed her right in this house and at first I wanted to crush him, but I realized that I just needed to move on. Keep living life, you know?"

"I want to," she answers "but I can't just let it go. Every time I think about my family I get filled with so much hatred towards Vincent and the gang. It feels like i'm drowning in it and I don't know how to get rid of it, but i'm going to try as hell to make sure they get what they deserve."

"Vincent too?" I question.

"As long as he stays away," Janet explains "then I can deal with leaving him alone."

"He's so difficult sometimes," I exhale. "I feel like he doesn't know how to be s good friend without doing something stupid."

"He wasn't like that before," Janet says. "He use to really kind and full of life. Being around him was like being filled with all this energy and excitement. . .I can tell he's changed a lot."

"Yeah," I chuckle. "The Vincent you're describing sounds like some kind of alien."

"He's just not real anymore," she exhales.

"Let's stop being all sad and stuff," I grin. "How about we do something fun?"

"Like what?" she gives me a confused look.

"Do you like pranks?" I smirk.
