Chapter 1: Masks, Sex, and Pranks

"Are you sure about this mom?" I ask as we make our way into the airport.

"Yes," she smiles, "I think this is a great idea."

"I can stay," I stop walking "to be with you and dad. I wasn't the only one who suffered a loss, we all lost someone."

Six months ago my older sister Lilo passed away in a car accident. A drunk driver crashed into her and she was declared brain dead at the hospital. We decided, well my parents decided, to pull the plug two months later to allow my sister to finally rest in peace. It hadn't hit me that my sister was dead until she finally stopped breathing and I was crushed. We did everything together and suddenly she was gone and I had no one to fight or go shopping with.

So my parents decided I needed to get away from everything and everyone that somehow reminded me of my dead sister, which is why we're at the airport.

I'm going to California to a small town called Woodale where there is only one high school, Woodale High school. Not only that, but my parents are making me live in one of my dad's old college friend's house and attend a support group for students.

All of this one week before my senior year of high school.

I know, I know, you're all wondering; why did you accept all of this?

For three simple reasons.

1. I think my parents need some space to grieve alone.

2. Everyone at school, in my neighborhood, and even in my family looks at me like I'm some sad abandoned puppy or a poor little broken toy.

3. The student support group is anonymous.

"Elliana Bair," my mom hugs me. "You're always so worried about others that sometimes you forget to worry about yourself. Your dad and I will be fine."

"I just don't want anything to happen while I'm gone," I frown.

"We will be fine," my mom insists. "Now go get on that plane."

"I'll call you," I say and I start to walk away towards my designated waiting room.

"You better," my mom says sternly " and don't do stupid stuff like have sex with strangers."

"Mom," I exclaim noticing that people walking by have begun to giggle.

"What," she says "and if some guy does want to wrestle at least remind him to always wear a mask."

"Mom," I blush furiously and turn around to walk away faster before she can say anything else.

"This is the house," the taxi driver says stopping in front of a gray two-story house.

"Thank you," I smile before paying him and taking my luggage out from the trunk.

I stand outside on the sidewalk staring at the house pleased. It's a simple nice normal looking house, which is great.

I need normal life for once.

The house is your typical two-story gray and white house with a bright red front door and a small porch containing two white lounging chairs.

I walk up two sets of cement staircases surrounded by small gardens of flowers on either side as I make my way towards the front door.

"This is it," I whisper before knocking on the door. I stand there for a few seconds, but no one answers.

Maybe they're not home?

I knock again and wait a few more seconds before simply twisting the doorknob and realizing the doors are unlocked.

That's strange.

"Hello," I say walking inside the house.

"Is anyone-" I start saying, but I'm interrupted by the feeling of freezing cold water soaking me from head to toe.

"What the holy fuck," I scream closing my eyes and lowering my head. Then I feel as if thousands of soft feathers were spilled over me.

"Dude it's a girl," a guy's voice says in between laughter and I look up to see three rather large guys standing in front of me with buckets in their hands.

I look down at myself and see that I'm completely covered with both water and feathers.

"No, it's a monkey," I yell pissed off. "Of course it's a girl, what did you expect?"

"We thought our roommate was going to be a guy," one of the guys explains. He's tall with beautiful bright blonde hair and crystal clear blue eyes all paired with a charming swoon-worthy smile.

"We are so sorry," another one of the guys says putting down his bucket. He has light ash brown hair neatly combed to the side with big brown eyes and from what I can tell he's the shortest one, but still incredibly tall.

"They," the third guy says. He's the tallest with dark almost black hair, deep intense green eyes, and a smug look plastered on his face it makes me want to deck him.

"What do you mean they?" I ask confused.

"He said we," the guy explains "and I corrected him."

"I'm Alex Gordian," the blonde guy introduces himself sending the guy with the black hair a glare, but he seems unaffected.

"Josh Summers," the guy with the ash brown hair says, a smile on his face.

"Vinny Halls," the last one says not bothering to even look at me. "So who's gonna clean this up?"

"I did the dishes last week," Josh says raising his arms up defensively.

"I mowed the lawn last weekend," Alex says looking at Vinny.

"Oh I'm not cleaning it up," Vinny shakes his head. "I just thought someone should."

How do things even get done around here?

"You never do anything," Josh argues. "You just point things out and volunteer others to clean it up."

"I think Josh should mop this mess up," Vinny says glaring at Josh.

"Or we can all do it," Alex gets in the middle.

"No," Josh rolls his eyes. "I always end up cleaning everything while you two watch."

"Last time I helped you," Vinny argues raising his voice.

"Yeah," Josh says annoyed "because you dropped paint accidentally on my bed and then just brought me pieces of ripped-up toilet paper so that I could clean it."

What did I get myself into?

"At least he brought you something to clean it up with," Alex says. "Last time he accidentally spilled all my shampoo in my bathtub and only said 'my bad' when I fell in the shower."

"You guys slit my tires," Vinny yells.

"Oh for the love of God," Josh chuckles angrily "let that go. It was an accident."

"How do you accidentally slit someone's tires?" Vinny exclaims and before I know it they're all yelling at the same time.

How did this escalate so quickly?

"Guys," I try yelling, but they don't stop.

I guess I'll use the big guns.

Covering both my ears I take in a big gulp of air and scream as loud and high pitch as I can.

"What the hell," they all say covering their ears.

"I'm Elliana Bair," I introduce myself glaring at all of them. "Thanks for asking and oh I'm also soaked and covered with feathers so if you all don't mind telling me where my room might be so that I can get out of these clothes."

"Do you have to?" Vinny smirks.

"I do," I glare at him. "You guys got me all wet."

"We get that often," Vinny smirks.

Gross.

"That's not what I meant you perverted turd," I spit out bitterly.

"She's mean," Josh laughs and I glare at him "I like her."

"Upstairs first door on the left," Alex says pointing at the top of the stairs.

"Thank you," I state making my way towards the stairs, and with every step, I take I can hear the squishing sound of my shoes.

My first day here and it's already terrible, but they're not getting away with this.

I am not letting them just soak me and then get nothing in return.

They've messed with the wrong person and I'll have an entire year to prove it to them.

"Oh by the way," I smirk looking back at them. "I'm really good at pranks so if I were you guys I'd watch my back."

"Sure thing kitten," Vinny rolls his eyes, and they all laugh.

Isn't there a saying; whoever laughs last, laughs the best.
