Chapter 8: She Wanted My Big Oversized Log For Her Bonfire

"He asked you to meet his parents," Taylor says, most likely smiling.

"Yes, he was all I want you to meet my family and I didn't know what to do," I frown placing the phone on my shoulder as I shove the last beach bag inside of Alex's car.

"I don't know what to tell you," she answers. "Maybe he just wants to take you as a friend."

"Still," I shake my head. "He said they were horrible and complicated which only means bad news."

"Why won't you just give it a shot?" She asks and I'm about to answer when I hear a familiar voice in the background.

"Who's that?" the voice asks and it sounds just like Pipper.

"Shut up," I hear Taylor hiss.

"Is that Pipper?" I ask happily. "Can I talk to him?"

"It's not Pipper," Taylor answers nervously and I frown. "I have to go my cousin needs my help."

It was Pipper.

"Tay-" she hangs up.

That was beyond strange.

Why is Pipper at Taylor's house and why would she lie about it?

"Less thinking more doing," Vincent says closing the trunk of the car. "Unless you're thinking of me."

"That would only result in a headache," I roll my eyes. "Besides I was told to always have nice thoughts not annoying disgusting ones."

"It's not my fault you have nasty thoughts of me," he winks and my jaw drops.

"That is not what I mean," I shove him, a playful smile forming on my lips.

"Princess," I hear Josh call and I can feel my heart begin to race.

I don't know what to do.

"Yeah," I answer and he stays quiet as if considering what to say, for a few seconds making the moment extremely awkward.

"Did you pack sunscreen?" He asks trying to be casual and I stay frozen for a few seconds before I realize that he didn't ask the question I was dreading.

"Yes," I respond trying my best to also be casual.

"Good," he nods before walking back into the house and I find myself releasing a breath I didn't know I was holding.

That was bad. Really bad.

"That was painful to watch," Vincent shakes his head. "You should just meet his family and get it over with."

"He told you?" I ask and Vincent scrunches his nose.

"Of course not," he states. "I overheard you talking on the phone and after this encounter, I just connected the dots."

"You were eavesdropping," I say pretending to be annoyed, but I'm honestly amused.

The bad boy Vinny eavesdropping a girls conversation.

Funny isn't it?

"I wasn't eavesdropping," he glares. "I was just casually standing behind you while you talked on the phone."

"Eavesdropping and stalking," I laugh. "You've just been promoted to a more advanced level of being a perverted grass ass, congratulations."

"Get in the car," Alex commands as he walks by.

"Who pissed in your breakfast?" I question making my way towards the passenger seat.

"Just get in the car," Alex rolls his eyes and I immediately cross my arms.

"No," I glare at him. "Not until you tell me what's wrong."

"I'm here," Josh runs out the house and quickly makes his way towards the car.

"Get in the car," Alex growls and both the guys immediately comply quickly getting in the car, but I maintain my stance.

I didn't plan this entire trip so that Alex can be on his man period and ruin it.

No way Jose.

"Not until you tell me who lit the fuse to your tampon," I tell him stubbornly and I can see his mouth twitch angrily.

"My football coach," he says taking a deep breath. "I was supposed to be team captain, but now he's considering Mick as well. I'm just mad because I deserve that position."

Damn.

Well, the devil boys definitely hate all my friends...except Taylor. They don't hate Taylor, yet.

"I'm sure if you deserve it you'll get it," I smile. "Life always finds a way to pay hard work."

"I guess," he looks away still annoyed.

"No," I point at him. "I gave you a nice encouraging comment and you're supposed to smile and say thank you. Then let it go and be in a good mood."

"Elliana," he starts but I interrupt him.

"Thank you Elliana," I say giving him a pointed look. "I'll try my best to be in a good mood now."

"God," he shakes his head. "Thank you, Elliana. I'll try my best to be in a good mood now."

"Great," I open the car door. "We're all set to go."

"You're stubborn," he smiles.

"You're a grass ass," I smile back.

"You're both idiots," Vinny knocks on his window. "Now that that's been established, can we go?"

Twatface.

"Careful shorty," Alex takes a hold of my waist as the wave crashes into us.

"I'm fine," I roll my eyes moving his hands off my waist. "I can handle the waves."

"Sure thing kitten," Vinny snarls as he makes his way further into the ocean.

"Bastard," I scoff as another wave hits me causing me to stumble back.

"I got you," I feel a pair of arms wrap around my waist holding me in place. I quickly turn around to see who the mysterious person might be and I immediately relax when I see Josh.

"Thanks," I mumble as he releases me and I move towards my right closer to Alex.

"Josh," Vinny yells raising a gray object above his head. "I found a rock."

"Hell yeah," Josh starts making his way towards him extremely excited. "I'm coming!"

"What's so special about rocks?" I ask Alex as we watch them inspects the rock.

"To Vinny nothing," Alex explains "but for Josh, they mean a lot. He's doing the science fair this year and his whole project is based on the marine life and stuff. So he said he needed live rock and some fish to create this salt water tank for his project."

"So Vinny is helping him find rocks," I smile "that's so strange."

And extremely adorable. Not such a bad boy, are we Vincent Halls?

"Yeah and he bought him this fish last week," Alex says. "The bubbles dude from the movie Nemo."

Awe, Vincent's so kind. Why does he refuse to show that to people?

I should get to know him better.

"Wow," I say shocked. "I didn't think they got along all that well."

"They're like brothers," Alex scoffs. "I mean they fight, a lot, but they always have each other's back. We all do."

"That's sweet," I smile. "You guys are practically family."

"We are," Alex looks at me. "You're included now shorty."

Wow. I guess he's right, we are a family. We live together, sometimes we have dinner together, and I think I'd put my hands in the fire for any of them. I just hope they do the same for me.

"I'm not a very good swimmer," Alex comments, a giant smirk on his face. "Do you have any lifeguard experience? You know in case I need mouth to mouth. "

Moment officially ruined.

"I'd let you drown," I snap playfully "and then I'd use your dead body as a floating device."

"You're evil," he laughs. "I was just asking a question."

"I just gave you an answer," I laugh.

"Shhh," he covers my mouth. "Do you hear that?"

"Hear what?" I smack his hand off and immediately turn to look for Josh and Vincent. They're both still there. "What is it?"

"It's the ocean," he answers. "It says you should go on a date with me."

What?

"You scared me," I shove him as a wave hits us causing me to fall and pull Alex with me. We both sink under the water and I begin rolling as the wave pushes me towards the shore.

"Shorty," I can hear Alex yells as my head comes out the water and I realize I'm about ten feet away from him now. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," I stand up and make my way towards him "but I think I'm done swimming for now."

"Good choice," he laughs. "We should go and eat something."

"Yeah," I nod as I make my way out the water.

"Wait," he grabs my arm. "You didn't tell me if you were going to listen to the ocean or not."

Oh, he was being serious.

"So the ocean," I smile "is trying to give me dating advice."

"Definitely, " he nods. "It's yelling out, go on a date with Alex followed by an extremely long list of my fantastic qualities."

"Is it now?" I chuckle.

"It is," he laughs "and it's being very persistent."

"Well, who am I to say no," I answer "to a very persistent ocean."

"You should call a lifeguard, " he says out of the blue.

"Why?" I turn towards Josh and Vincent, but again they're fine.

"Because I'm drowning in those beautiful eyes of yours," he winks at me and for the first time since I met him, I find myself blushing and maybe even swooning.

Maybe.

"He's all burned," I tell the pretty blonde cashier who won't stop sending flirty eyes at Vincent "because he didn't think he needed to put on sunscreen."

"Poor you," she smiles sympathetically at Vincent. "I think we have some lotion for sunburns in the back."

"Okay," he smirks at her before making his way to the back of the shop.

"Isn't he sweet?" She asks me and I give her a big smile.

"Very," I say sarcastically. "He's a huge big cupcake with bitchy dust sprinkled all over it."

"I can hear you kitten," Vincent calls out.

"I don't care," I roll my eyes and I can see the cashier trying not to laugh.

"I found a big surfboard," Vincent walks towards me his eyes clearly looking at my ass. "It reminded me of the one you have."

I don't have a surfboard.

Is this some kind of innuendo?

"My big surfboard," I glare at him and he smirks.

Innuendo.

Perverted grass ass.

"Are you talking about the oversized one we have in the back?" the cashier asks completely unaware of what is happening.

"I am," he nods and I shake my head.

"We also have some oversized beach balls," she adds and I smirk.

"You sure need some of those Vincent," I say smugly and he glares at me.

"I believe the ones I have now," he states "are of a very good size."

"Sure they are," I pat his shoulder. "I just think it's time to let go of the kid's size."

"I like kid sized toys," the cashier shrugs. "Sometimes they're easier to handle. "

"You two would get along," I smile trying to hold back my laughter.

"I completely understand you," the cashier smiles at Vincent "Sometimes you want to pack it quick and you can't because the huge balls are always in the way."

"That is a constant struggle in my life," Vincent says as the cashier charges the lotion and I bite my tongue to stop myself from laughing.

"Will that be all?" She asks and we both nod. "You sure I can't interest you in some big logs for the bonfire?"

Okay, that's it.

I'm officially laughing like crazy while they both look at me like I need to go to a mental institution.

***

"You have a very dirty mind," Alex laughs as he drives home. So after I and Vincent went back to the car he immediately told them what had happened except he got everything wrong.

According to his story, I found the surfboard that reminded me of him, talked about his beach balls, and offered him big logs for my bonfire.

Stupid grass ass.

"It was all Vincent," I scoff "he was the one making dirty remarks."

"I was only talking about surfboards and beach balls with the very understanding cashier," Vincent explains "but kitten here was thinking all sorts of indecent thoughts."

"You need to go to church," Josh laughs. "Get yourself cleaned."

"You do," Alex adds "and stop trying to corrupt Vincent with you perverted ways."

"Yeah," Vincent nods smirking.

"Dumb egotistical grass asses," I glare at them turning towards the window as the house comes into view.

"We'll take everything out tomorrow," he parks the car. "I'm too lazy."

"Sounds good to me," Vincent adds as we get out the car.

"I'm going to shower," Josh says making his way into the house and I follow behind him.

Should I talk to him about his parents?

Do I say yes or no?

Ugh, why is this so hard?

"Later," Josh walks into the house and runs up the stairs.

Damn it. Maybe later.

"Ellie," Vincent calls me walking into the house.

"Yeah," I say a bit uneased. He has this expression like he's about to tell me he ran over my dog or something.

"You should meet Josh's family," he says and I'm taken back. "I know them and they're fucken terrible people which means Josh is only going because he has to....He invited you because you're probably a good friend or something."

He knows them? How? Why? When did he meet them?

So many questions I feel the need to ask, but knowing Vincent he'll probably just avoid them.

I could ask Josh.

"I don't know," I throw myself on the couch.

"Look," he stands in front of me and I can see a crystal clear emotion in his eyes, worrisome. "I know Josh acts like he doesn't miss them and what not, but he does. I know he does. So what's going to happen tomorrow is that he'll go see them and realize that they haven't changed one bit which means they're still fucken terrible people. That'll crush him and he's going to need someone there. I'd go, but they all hate my guts. So you should go and be there for him."

Wow.

"Okay," I nod.

"Thanks, kitten," he winks at me and all emotion I'd been able to see before is know gone.

How does he do that?

"Only," I yell out and he turns around glaring at me "if you promise to be a good partner for the project."

"I promise," he rolls his eyes and I smile.
