Chapter 7: Six: The Creatures

My Monster Mate (Book I)Words: 8997

The Creatures

Nathaniel said that walking back would be a stupid idea, which clearly makes sense since there are things in No Man's Land. So rather we got into his grey Mercedes Benz GT3 AMG. He has many cars, clearly due to his status.

I never fully understood why Alpha's have so much money, what could they possibly do that would generate so much money. – I'm assuming he's the Alpha of this Pack, he exudes power.

I hear a chuckle from the drivers' seat, "Hey! Stop reading my thoughts. How do you even do that?"

"I'm not exactly like you." He says, starting the car.

Not like me? I mean, fair, I didn't exactly see his as a wolf. However, if he's Alexander's brother he should be a wolf. I take a look at his caramel skin, clearly, he's his half-brother but how different could he possibly be?

I raise a curious brow, "What are you then?"

"I'm what you would call a Creature. I'm a witch-werewolf hybrid. I don't really use the witch in me, though. I've never really needed to. Nobody ever dares to try to fight me." He shrugs.

There was nothing cocky about his statement. He was honestly just stating facts. There wasn't a touch of supremacy in his tone.

"Is that why you can link me and read my thoughts?"

It would make a lot of sense, I would imagine that had something to do with the witch side. I wouldn't mind that, I mean, who hasn't ever wanted to read minds?

And if I could I could finally know what goes on in that mate of mines mind.

"I'm not completely sure why I can, I just know that I can. Only Creatures can."

I cautiously ask, "Are there's like, you know, more of you?"

This makes him chuckle, "You can say Creatures, y'know."

"It sounds mean."

Who came up with that? They are wolves too, with feelings and everything. 'Creatures' is clearly very insensitive.

He shrugs, "I'm used to it, I won't take offence. And yeah, there's more Creature's in No Man's Land perhaps about five."

"Can they make more?"

His turn is a bit sharp making me hold the dashboard but he doesn't even notice, "No. They don't have the power nor the genes to. They can't make any offspring."

"Oh... Hey, since Alexander is your brother, can he read minds?"

Nathaniel laughed, he had a really beautiful laugh, "No. He can't."

I nodded. Obviously, Nate got that from his mother then. Since I'm assuming they have different mothers. If Nate exuded this Power, his father must be the same as Alexander's. Explaining why he could also be the Alpha of that Pack. Not to mention clearly he's older so he definitely has all it takes to be an Alpha. Halfblood or not.

"I can only link you or read your mind if I can see you. Maybe I could work on improving that though, we'll see how it goes the closer we get." He says and I nod.

I don't regret choosing Nathaniel to take me home at all, he was such a kind, gentle soul. I could definitely see us growing closer and being the best of friends. I'd definitely find myself on his territory way more often.

I realise we've reached my house much faster than I would've liked. I actually like Nathaniel's company.

I offer him a smile, "Thanks for driving me back."

"Next time you want to get to my brother take a car or something, please."

I laugh lightly, "Yeah, think I've learnt my lesson."

I get out the car and throw him a wave before he drives off, I hope he makes it off the property okay. I turn on my heels and run into the house, desperately wanting to find my father. He would know things about Creatures and I would definitely love to find out more about them and No Man's Land.

"Hey, Dad!?" I yell as soon as I shut the front door.

I pop my head into the TV room, "Dad?"

"Oh, he's not here, Poppie." My mom yells from the kitchen.

I make my way back to the front door, "Do you know where I could find him, Ma?"

"He's at the Pack House. Alpha Jay wanted to discuss some things. Don't pester him if he's busy."

"Yes, mother." I roll my eyes.

I walk to the Pack House. We have three but they're positioned right after one another so if you stand in front of the first one you can't see the ones behind it. The Alpha, Beta, Pack Warriors and Gemma offices are in the middle Pack House as well as rooms for unmated, widowed, orphaned wolves.

I walk in and head for my father's office, taking the stairs two at a time.

"Pa?" I walk in without knocking.

Even if the Alpha was in here it would be okay, Jay is like my older brother. He's twenty-five and used to babysit me when his parents and mine were out fighting.

"Yeah, Eli." He raises his head.

I love my mother but I'm a total daddy's girl. I ran to him and hugged him before he could even stand. I then sat on his lap.

"I have questions." I beamed.

"Shoot."

I start with the most basic one, "Do you know what Creatures are?"

"I do, however, how do you know what they are?" He raises a brow.

I figure this part can be truthful, "I was running and then I accidentally past the border, landing onto No Man's Land –"

"How do –" He sniffed the air, "Why were you with Nathaniel Russo?"

I choked on oxygen. What the hell do I say?

"Uhm... He saved me from the Creatures?" It came out more like a question.

My father scoffs, "That's a bit ironic."

"I know," I roll my eyes, "But he did, okay? I crossed the border and I couldn't turn back because I was being chased. So, Nate let me onto his land so that the dangerous Creatures couldn't get me. He's good."

He side eyes me, "I highly doubt any Russo knows what 'good' is."

"Dad! That's mean, would he have driven me home if he was dangerous?"

"Maybe he's trying to butter you up. You're a beautiful unmated she-wolf. He's an Alpha. Would make the perfect match." He shrugs.

"Well, your imagination is wild." I chuckle, feeling uncomfortable with the fact that I can't tell my own father that I have found my mate.

Also uncomfortable? Him insinuating that Nathaniel would find me attractive, gag.

"I don't want you seeing him."

My brows scrunched, "What? But Dad –"

"No buts, Elijah. If you 'hang' with him you might be dragged in with Alexander Russo. I don't want that for my pup." He moves my hair from my face.

I narrow my eyes at his gesture, "That's not fair, Pa. He won't do anything, I know so."

I stop myself before I accidentally mention that he can't do anything or else Alexander will chop him up. Well, Alexander's wolf.

"You don't see him and that's final." He says, sounding sterner.

I move to his couch and sit obnoxiously crossing my arms, "I refuse."

"Is he your mate?" I gasp, taken a bit off guard.

"What? Nathaniel? No!" I yell.

He swirls his chair toward me, "Are you lying to me?"

"No! I literally just met him. I dunno why he saved me," Lie, "I just want to keep him close to find out more about Creatures."

He waves his hands dismissively, "There are books for that."

"Really? I mean, books on Creatures, are there?" I stand.

"Yes, in the Library." I yelled a quick 'thanks,' and ran to the library.

Really, I didn't have to run but that conversation was taking really sharp lefts that I no longer wanted to participate in. My father was asking way too many questions for my liking. Lying was stabbing my heart every time I did because I really didn't want to do it but my fear was crippling me from telling them the truth.

The unfortunate thing about having three Pack House's, at this exact moment, is that we have three libraries. I had to visit each one. I found three not as ratty as I expected books clearly labelled.

The Creatures Vol. 1

The Creatures Vol. 2

The Creatures Vol. 3

I grabbed them all and head home. A small step makes its way into my walk, I was feeling very excited about these books. I wanted to read them cover to cover, I had never heard of a hybrid before. Why aren't we taught about them? Why aren't they ever mentioned? I really hope these books are insightful.

Just as I shut the front door I hear my mother yell, "Poppie, is that you?"

"Yeah." I yell back, not following her voice but making my way up the stairs and to my room.

I hear the television being lowered, "You find your father?"

"I did, thanks."

"Okay." She says just as I enter my room, I shut my door and set the books on my bedside table.

Kicking off my shoes, I sit cross-legged on my bed and grab Volume 1.

'You should listen to your father.'

I jumped, not expecting nor recognising the voice. This isn't Nathaniel.

'Nathaniel Russo isn't to be trusted.'

Who the hell are you? Do you know how creepy it is to just pop into people's minds?

I jumped off my bed and pull open the sliding door, stepping onto my balcony I tried to find the owner of the voice but I couldn't see anything that was out of place. They clearly didn't want to be seen, which only unsettled me even more.

'Just stay away. Please.'

Who are you?

'I have to go. I'll tell you some other time Elijah Azaliah Vilakazi'

He knows my middlename, no one actually knows it besides Nicholas, Elisha and my parents. Heobviously used it purposefully, as if he was trying to prove that he was trustworthy. But that only left me with the burning question; who is this guy?
