Chapter 15: Fourteen: The Blackout

My Monster Mate (Book I)Words: 9286

The Blackout

I had been home for two days with nothing to do and no one to bother because it finally dawned on me that Elisha had left. I actually don't know what to do with myself now that she was so far from me.

We had sorted our stuff out and then she left right after, leaving me with nothing but longing. For her and a bit for how easy everything fell into place for her. She got a mate who couldn't be the most thoughtful and loving soul to ever grace the earth.

Someone she already knew and trusted, someone she had watched take care of her sister for years so she knows full well he could take care of her. Majority of the bond had already been solidified, there was nothing much left to do.

She had it so easy. I wanted it to be that easy for me too. It was a stupid thing to wish for, I know, but I couldn't stop myself from wishing it.

Feeling fed up with my thoughts, I toss my book to the end of my bed and let out a frustrated scream at how complicated everything had to be for me.

That was until I heard the slight creaking of our wooden staircase, I was home alone so I knew it wasn't my parents. Not to mention this person was audibly trying not to make a noise, they were tiptoeing their way up the stairs.

By the time the door opened revealing an unknown she-wolf, I was ready for her. She had short black hair, pale skin and dull blue eyes. She smelled quite different but it was a different I knew but couldn't place.

"What do you want here?" I asked.

"You." She snarled, "You killed her, you bitch. You killed Katy!" Her eyes were wild and her tone vengeful.

Killed? This girl was clearly delusional, " I haven't killed –"

I stopped short when I remembered the wolves from two days ago, the ones that had interrupted my run. They came out of nowhere and were so aggressive, they clearly wanted me dead. This one probably does too. Did she think I wouldn't defend myself?

Well that is laughable.

"That was a mistake. She came out of nowhere and started attacking me, what was I supposed to do? Let her?" I snap.

The she-wolf grits out, "You were supposed to stop, just as Isaiah had told you to!"

She knows Isaiah, meaning those wolves did too. They must have been Creatures that is probably why she smells like she does and why I find the smell familiar. I had just smelt it the day before because Nathaniel does not smell like this. He had the distinct Russo smell.

I shook my head, "I did stop! I didn't kill Katy. I bit her leg, that's all I did."

She corrected, "You bit Morgan and killed Katy."

My brows furrow as confusion covers my face, "What!?"

'Don't deny it. She won't kill you. Just say you did it.' Isaiah linked me.

Listening to him I apologise, "I'm sorry. I was trying to save myself."

"All you did was kill my best friend. You can shove your sorry. You're lucky I promised Isaiah I wouldn't kill you. Too bad I didn't say shit about hurting you."

Obviously, Isaiah failed to inform her that I'm a Warrior.

She took off in a sprint, lunging at me, I sidestepped and grabbed a hold of her leg that was barrelling past me from her lunge. While she was airborne I spun her by her leg and proceeded to throw her out of my open window.

I follow her out the window, however, I jump out fully intending to land right on top of her. Which I do, my fist immediately connects with her jaw. She grunts, grabbing a fist full of my hair she bangs my head to the ground. She pushes me off her afterwards but I don't let her get far.

She begins to stand but I kick her right in the knee, causing a loud cracking sound to be heard and her jeans to split. Her patella hanging awkwardly as her femur was now disconnected, pushed further back than it should be.

She fell to the ground and let out an agonising blood-curdling scream. She held onto her leg and let out strings of curses, she tried her hardest but unfortunately for her – looks don't kill.

"Dammit Alba." Isaiah came into view, he was jogging towards us from the treeline.

He kneeled down beside her and gave her his hand to hold, she then muttered a few words while her other hand circled around her broken kneecap. In a matter of seconds it wasn't very broken at all.

She had harnessed his magic and used it to heal herself.

"Leave," Isaiah spoke to her before ushering me into my own home.

I looked behind me only to see shreds of clothing – that I would now have to pick up – on the ground and a brown wolf running into the woods. She did have a slight limp though, leaving my mouth tilted into a smirk.

As soon as we're in the house I ask, "Why did you lie to her? You know I didn't kill that wolf." I practically yelled at Isaiah.

"Alba is one of the smartest wolves I know. She could easily piece together that Alex is your mate had I told her the truth. I'm pretty sure you don't want people knowing that yet."

I opened my mouth to protest but he stopped me, "I've read your mind, so don't bother trying to lie."

"Who the hell do you think you are?"

I was beyond pissed off that he thought he could just read my thoughts as if we've been chums all our lives, "You've got some real nerve waltzing into my life like this and thinking you have the right to read my mind!" I fumed.

He did not look the least bit phased, he calmly said, "Block your thoughts and then no one can read them. At the moment you're just letting them roam free."

"Roam free? I didn't think there was a need for me to 'block my thoughts,' I'm not marked why would I block them?"

"Well, now you know to block them." He shrugs.

He's not even the least bit apologetic, the rude little doughnut biscuit.

"You're still not telling me who you are." I snap, generally annoyed with his face and entire unknown being.

Isaiah stood tall with caramel skin a few shades lighter than my own, his hair was shaven and his mesmerising ocean blue eyes still haunting me. He had a light shadow of a beard and the fairest shade of freckles spotted on his nose scattering lightly onto a bit of his cheeks.

"Isaiah." He smirked.

I roll my eyes, "You're not slick."

He went serious again, "I won't tell anyone about Alex. You just need to be more careful. Please."

As soon as the words passed through his lips my front door opened to reveal an infuriated Nathaniel. I was both pleased and displeased that all these Creatures used my front door.

"I knew you were in here. Why are you here? What do you want from her?"

The anger was coming off in waves, I knew from all our joint encounters that Nathaniel did not like Isaiah but this was a whole new level of distaste I was witnessing.

"Hello to you too Nathan. It's good to see you too Nathan. We should catch up you say? I agree it has been far too long." Isaiah rattled off.

Nate's words were slow, "Why. Are. You. Here?"

"Nate it's okay –" I tried to calm him but he interrupted my speech.

"No, it's not. Isaiah is not to be trusted. He's a Creature – the very same one that was attacking you two days ago or have you forgotten?"

He was now standing beside me, staring me down as if waiting for me to say I had forgotten this.

"What? Isaiah didn't attack me. You weren't even there, how would you know?"

His eyes did not leave Isaiah's figure, "Alex. Alex told me and Alex has also asked for Creatures from No Man's Land to be killed."

Killed? Why must Alexander always take things too far? Nobody needed to be killed over this, not only won't I allow it but it wasn't fair either.

"But he didn't do anything! I won't let you kill him just because your temperamental brother said so."

"All my 'temperamental brother' is trying to do is save you. They came after you, they need to be killed."

Here we go with this damsel in distress bullshit. I couldn't believe Nate was feeding into this, was his hate for Isaiah really that great? What could have possibly transpired between the two for Nathaniel to hate him so much?

"Nathaniel!" I gasp.

"Wouldn't that mean you need to be killed too, Nathan?" Isaiah finally spoke up.

Nate narrows his eyes, "No. I'm not like you."

Also, for the record, he did say from No Man's Land but this isn't my quarrel so I won't mention it.

"You sure sound like it." Isaiah mused.

I couldn't believe he thought now was the time to play tease Nathaniel.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" I snap at Isaiah.

"He wouldn't dare to kill me." He laughs, "I'll just be on my way."

"You're not going anywhere." Nate spat.

I had never seen Nathan like this, "Nathaniel, what the hell is your problem? Just let him go. He didn't do anything wrong." I try to reason.

This would fall under the times I wished I lived around other wolves. It would be simple for them to smell these two. Then they'd both have to leave. All they're doing at this point is irritating me with this back and forth.

"Elijah, stay out of this. Just go upstairs." Nathaniel said.

"Excuse me? Not only are you not my father, this is my house and my territory not to mention I am in no mood to be cleaning up this living room. So maybe you should follow Isaiah right out that door." I outstretched my arm, my index finger pointing at the front door.

"Forgive me," Nate says quietly before my vision becomes hazy.

I knew he had used his witch powers on me because as soon as he had spoke my whole body felt like goo. It only took a few seconds for my eyes to shut and my legs to give in.
