Chapter 10: Nine: The Sparks

My Monster Mate (Book I)Words: 10431

The Sparks

Just before I got out of the car, I asked Nathaniel for his number. That way he can come to pick me up or I can just call him when I want something. It would make a whole lot more sense than having to run through No Man's Land.

Maybe I have actually learnt my lesson, I am not doing that again.

I still can't get Isaiah's eyes out of my mind. They're identical to my mothers. But, I mean everybody has blue eyes. Well, not everybody but plenty of people do. It has to be a coincidence. My mother has no brothers.

"Did you get the information you needed?" Elisha asks, walking into my room.

What information could she possibly be on about, "Huh?"

She sat on my bed, "Nicholas told me everything."

"Elisha!" I hiss, "Why would you put him in such an uncomfortable position? What the hell is wrong with you?"

I can't believe she would do that, I can't believe she would use their mate-bond to break my trust like that. I hope it was worth it.

That's sarcasm, by the way. I already know it won't be worth it because that was uncalled for and just plain disrespectful.

"You were keeping things from me! We don't do that, I had to find out somehow."

I scoff, "And asking me was too much?"

"Look. I'm sorry, I just needed to know. You're my sister, my sole purpose is to keep you safe. I can't do that if I don't even know where you are. And when I felt that sharp pain in my rib, I knew I had to find out."

Oh. I had forgotten all about that, I did tell her I was fine though, I responded to her link. Had I perhaps not responded I would one hundred percent agree with her, however, this isn't enough.

"I told you I was fine." I say, only slightly annoyed now.

She scrambles for words, "I know, Eli, I do but what else was I to do?"

"I get hurt in training too and –"

She interrupts, "Not suddenly," I roll my eyes.

"I got tripped, that's all. I'm all good, would you like to see my side?" I laugh.

She rolls her eyes, "That won't be necessary."

After a few beats, she says, "Alexander Russo, huh?"

I almost want to jump off my balcony, jeez, he told her about that too? I mean, I guess the stories go together but still. That's a lot to tell her in one go, also, how did he just spew all this out and not give me a heads up? A quick mind-link would've been immensely appreciated.

"Yeah..." I sigh, "Between you and me, I would've preferred Nathaniel."

She laughs, "Obviously the Moon Goddess paired you two together for a reason, Elijah."

"Well, I don't see it." I give her a childish face.

She gets comfortable on the bed, "What is the deal with Nathaniel anyway, why do you keep seeing him?"

"He's become a good friend. It's just really easy to speak to him. But it's not like I actually head out to see him. He's just always there. Today I had actually gone to see him, but after today I don't think I actually want to speak to nor see Alexander ever again. He said the most horrible things to his brother."

"Well... We all know he isn't the nicest person." She shrugs.

"Still. Nathaniel is nothing but nice to him. You know, when Alexander can't watch over me, Nate does. His other brothers don't do shit. But he calls them his 'real' family. I might just hate them before I even meet them." I huff, "Oh. Wait, I won't meet them."

Her brows furrow, "Why not? They're going to be your family."

"Alexander said I won't. So, whatever. It's not like I want to be his mate." I sigh.

It's all lies, of course, I freaking want him. I want him more than I've wanted anyone else in my entire life. But I know it's just the bond talking because I barely know Alexander.

Although with every passing day I don't know how much longer I can just blame these growing feelings on the bond.

Elisha sighs and hugs me, "I'm sorry this has to be so complicated for you."

"It will only get worse if anyone else finds out."

* * *

"No, Dean you block with your right and punch with your left. You're left-handed, why are you punching with your right?"

He stopped what he was doing, "I just saw everyone else punch with their right."

I suppressed a laugh, "No, that's not how it works. Everyone else won't be around when you need to protect yourself so do what works for you."

I then demonstrate a right-hand block, left-hand punch a few times for him to get the hang of it.

"This is so much easier!" He yelled, "Thank you, Eli."

I smiled broadly, "Sure thing, kid."

I moved on to check on the other junior warriors to make sure they weren't just copying everyone else as well. They were all doing relatively well so I decided they could have the rest of training off.

"I was two laps around the training grounds then you're all free to go." I spoke, "Well done everybody." I smile at them and they beam back at me, yelling out their thank you's.

They took off into their jogs and I turned to unstrap my training gloves. It has been three days since the whole ordeal between the Russo's. I've been texting Nate since to find out how he is and how things are between him and his distasteful brother. Unsurprisingly Alexander the douche lord hadn't apologised to Nathaniel nor even spoken to him.

It was a few hours later when I heard a knock on my sliding door. I quickly turned around, automatically going into full attack mode. I walk to the door and open the curtain only to be met with Alexander. I freeze for a moment a bit shocked to see him on my balcony, he gives me an annoyed impatient look and only then do I open the door.

"Sorry, I – oh my word, you're so wet." I instantly turn to go get some towels from my adjoining bathroom. I walk into the pearl white room just as I hear him chuckle.

He smirked. "I always thought I'd say that to you first."

I hear his words just as I had turned to face my mirror, I take note that if I was any lighter my cheeks would be red. Thankfully I'm not so I just see a slight smile greet my brown eyes. I bend and open my cupboard, pulling out my white towels.

I try to sound harsh, "What do you want, Alexander?"

"Just to see how my little mate's doing."

I return from my bathroom with the towels in hand only to be met with Alexander in his boxers only. I freeze, swallowing hard. A million disgusting thoughts running through my mind causing me to turn around. Looking at his wet form, that water on his abdomen making his pecks glisten, it wasn't good for my hormones.

"I... I'm going to get you something." I leave the towel on my bed.

I walked into my closet and grabbed a shirt and sweatpants that belonged to Nicholas. I had quite a few that I've racked up throughout the years. Elisha occasionally comes to try and take his shirts and sweaters but, I don't let her. They're comfy, not to mention she could literally get her own. These don't even smell like him anymore.

I walk out and hand them to Alexander, avoiding eye contact. That is until he grabbed my chin, tilting it upwards so I can look up to him. His face was void of emotion.

"Whose are these?" He grits out.

"My best friends." I remove his hand, "Relax. I just enjoy wearing his clothes not to mention they're from a very long time ago. He's mated to my sister, so you don't have to get your thoughts twisted."

He wrinkles his nose, "I don't want you wearing another male wolfs clothes."

"You have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do. I will wear whatever the hell I want." I snap, "Have you even apologised to Nathaniel?"

He growls lowly, "No. I don't give a shit about him. I don't want you to see him ever again, Eli. Don't test me on this."

"Fuck you! You're my mate, not my father!" Thank goodness for the rooms being soundproof because I was screaming.

It was so dumb how quickly he could anger me, it was dumb because I'd be left fuming and raging while he's as cool as a cucumber.

He voiced his thoughts, "Nathaniel is an unmated wo –"

I didn't let him finish, "He can't even have a mate, what –"

He didn't let me finish either, "That's the problem. He can do whatever the fuck he wants because no one's waiting for him! I don't trust him around you."

He sounded delusional, this is his brother! How could he not trust him with me? Especially when a few days he was seemingly the only wolf he trusted to be around me. I probably would've never met Nate if it weren't for Alexander making him hover over me so I was greatly confused about where this change came from.

I gave him an incredulous look, "You're speaking as if we have, like, feelings for one another."

"Oh, you are fucking dense. Nathaniel is clearly infatuated with you." He waved his hands in frustration.

"No, he's not."

I imagined him with his hands on his hip although they were all over the show, "How else is he always there to play the hero?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because I'm always closer to him."

He smiles sickenly sweet, "And why is that?"

"Let me see; you don't want me, you're never there, and I have to pass his land to reach yours!" I count on my fingers.

His eyes soften, "You tried to come to me?"

"Yeah. Your wolf's not the only one with needs." I scoff, his eyes instantly turn hard again.

"Give me your phone." I hand it to him, with no hesitation.

He types on it for a while then hands it back to me. Our hands brush for that moment and the sparks are instant and all over my body. I drop my phone because I had forgotten the sensation of the sparks spreading throughout my body.

I had forgotten how great they felt. I close my eyes and obviously, he took this as an open invitation to slowly trail his hand further up my arm sending more sparks all over my body.

Once he reaches my shoulder he places the other on my other shoulder, sliding them both down my back. They run down my back, leaving a slight squeeze on my butt. This elicits a moan from me, he reaches below my bum and picks up my legs.

As if we've been doing this for years, I instinctively I wrap them around his waist. I open my eyes for the briefest moment and then they shut again once he kisses me. I hold back a moan as my lips work against his and I feel almost alive.

I suddenly have a zoo residing in my stomach and I love the feeling, I almost want them to stay forever. He walks us to my bed, placing me gently on the bed never breaking the kiss.

He taps my legs and I unwrap them from around his waist but I wish I hadn't because I'm met with a gust of cold. I finally open my eyes, realising the moment has been taken away from me. I see him stepping back into the rain,

"Where are you going?" I ask, my voice soft.

"Anywhere but here."
