Bartlett gave her a wry smile, âIâve been crazy busy recently, either on the road or working abroad. I wanted to hit you up as soon as I got back, but it seems Iâm a step too late.â
âYouâre not late.â
Ellinorâs eyes reflected the blue fireworks in the sky.
After hearing this, Bartlettâs eyes lit up a bit. âYou mean thereâs still a chance for me?â
Ellinor said, âNo, I mean, even if you werenât busy, even if you had time to come see me, there wouldnât be a chanceâ
Bartlett was taken aback, then a cold smirk appeared on his face, âDo I really fall that short in your eyes?â
Ellinor smiled. âMaybe youâre a great guy, but when your heart is already taken by someone else, you canât see the good in others.â
Bartlett stared at Ellinorâs profile as she looked up at the sky, âSo, Theo is the one whoâs taken your heart?â
Ellinor nodded and said simply, âYes, I like Theo. No question about it.â
Bartlettâs smile was a bit sarcastic, âDo you think Theoâs heart is completely taken by you, with no room left for anyone else?â
After heanng this, Ellinor frowned at Bartlett, whose eyes were gazing somewhere else.
She followed his gaze, only to see the hall empty as everyone went out to watch the fireworks. Only Theo was sitting on the couch, taking a call.
It must be Patricia, she was the only one who would call at this time.
Ellinor paused for a moment, âTheo has his difficulties. Patricia once saved his life, so he canât forget what she did for him.â
Bartlett chuckled, âSee, you canât be sure that youâre the only one in Theoâs heart.â
Ellinor glanced at Bartlett, âBut I know at least half of Theoâs heart is with me.â
âReally?â Bartlettâs smile was somewhat mysterious.
Ellinor didnât like Bartlettâs presumptuous guessing, so she looked up at the fireworks, ignoring him.
Bartlett also looked up at the fireworks, âNo matter how independent and strong Girls are, they always get lost in love. Ellinor, Iâve known Theo longer than you and I understand him better. Heâs not the kind of guy who takes love seriously; youâll find out soon enough that heâs actually quite cold-blooded.â
Ellinor didnât like others talking about Theo like this, so she shot Bartlett a sharp look, âAnd what about you? Mr. Rex, youâre here talking all this crap; what kind of person are you? Taking advantage of your friendâs absence to sow discord, arenât you a bit twisted?â
Bartlettâs expression turned gloomy, then he grinned again, âI may not be a good guy, but at least I can love you with all my heart! Are you sure you wonât reconsider?â
Ellinor was getting impatient; she thought Bartlett was not only conceited but also boring. She didnât even want to watch the fireworks anymore, so she turned -around and left the terrace.
Bartlett watched her leave. He wanted to stop her but shut his mouth again.
His gaze followed Ellinor until he saw her sit next to Theo, then he looked away.
Suddenly, Jonahâs arm landed on his shoulder, âBartlett, what were you talking about with Ellinor?â
Bartlett chuckled. âNothing much, just wishing her and Theo the best.â
Jonahâs gaze followed Bartlettâs to the room; he happened to see Theo hang up the phone, then he embraced Ellinor, bringing their faces close together.
âOh my! Look at Theo! If I hadnât seen it with my own eyes, I wouldnât believe Theo could fall head over heels in loveâ
Bartlettâs eyes were cold; he laughed lightly, âFall head over heels in love?â
