Ellinor was still absentmindedly playing her game. âOkay, Mr. Howard, spit it out. Iâm all earsâ
Byran stood up, leaning on her desk, getting up close and personal. âWhatâs the real reason you left the Blanchet family?â
Hearing this, Ellinorâs hand on the mouse hesitated for a moment. She offered a small smile but didnât look up.
âI did what I needed to do, then I leftâ
Byran looked puzzled. âWhat was that?â
Ellinor glanced at him, âDidnât you already know? Mr. Blanchet never truly intended to marry me. He just needed me to deal with the Blanchet family elders. I carried out the mission. If I had stayed, I would have become Patriciaâs rival,â
Byran was stunned and at a loss for words as she calmly spilled the beans.
Just then, there was a knock on Ellinorâs office door.
Byranâs secretary, Jone, poked his head in, âMs. Howard has left. Mr. Howard asked me to remind you to get back to your homeworkâ
Byran felt a headache coming on upon hearing he had to get back to homework. He was restless.
âAlright, got it! You go ahead, Iâll chat with Ms. Mendoza for a bit and then head back myselfâ
âOkay, Mr. Howard Jone respectfully acknowledged Byranâs words, shooting Ellinor a look. He couldnât help but feel a bit miffed.
What was with Ellinor? Even kids werenât off-limits.
Once Jone was out of sight, Byran grabbed Ellinorâs hand on the mouse.
âEllinor, letâs go! Youâre coming with me!â
âWhy should I go with you? Mr. Howard didnât ask me to.â
Ellinor was internally rejecting him, but Byran had already pulled her to her feet. She had no choice but to follow him out of the office.
Byran didnât have time to explain. He rushed her into the closing elevator, finally letting out a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, they made it to the elevator and there was no one else inside.
Ellinor shook off his hand, âByran, whatâs your deal? Why are you dragging me around?â
Byran admitted, âI donât want to go back to homework. I canât solve a single problem. Iâll definitely get chewed out by my brother.â
Ellinor gave him a bitter smile and said, âThen just take off on your own. Why drag me into it?â
Byran justified himself, âBecause I didnât bring any money. If I leave, I canât afford a cab ride home!â
Ellinor was speechless.
âMr. Howard, consider othersâ feelings! Youâve made me miss work for no reason. Do you want me to get chewed out by your brother too?â
Byran scoffed, âEllinor, cut the crap! I know you didnât come to the Howard family to work, so what does it matter if you miss a day?â
Ellinor paused, surprised at Byranâs insight. He was onto something.
Byran turned to her with an intense gaze that suggested that he was no fool and that nothing could be kept from him. âTell me! Are you eyeing Balfour again?
