Baber reached out his arms to the man, mumbling something that sounded like âDaddy.â
The guests began to whisper among themselves.
âIs that Patriciaâs and Mr. Blanchetâs child sheâs holding?â
âI think so, the kid looks a lot like Patricia!â
âAre they still not married? How come they already have a kid?â
âWhatâs the big deal? Mr. Blanchet and Patricia have been together for a while, but just because their parents donât approve, they havenât tied the knot! But theyâre so loveyâdovey, it was only a matter of time before they had a kid, right?â
âWow, Baber is so cute!â
Listening to the chatter, Ellinor felt a bit out of place and backed away a bit more.
Balfour also seemed to think she was out of place and he beckoned her over in a low voice, âMs.
Mendoza, come over here, letâs go.â
Finally, she could leave. Ellinor breathed a sigh of relief and obediently walked towards her boss, Balfour.
âAlright, Mr. Howard.â
Haillie, however, reluctantly blocked Balfourâs way, âBalfour, youâre leaving so early?â
Balfour replied, âYeah, you stay here and keep Patricia company for me.â
âOkay, donât worry, Balfour, I will!â Haillie nodded readily but shot a meaningful glance at Ellinor.
Ellinor didnât take Haillieâs look to heart and followed Balfour out of the noisy banquet hall.
Bartlett watched Ellinorâs retreating figure as he took a sip of his red wine.
Jonah Wyton suddenly waved his hand in front of him, âBartlett, you seem particularly enthusiastic about Ellinor today; do you have feelings for her too?â
Bartlett smiled, âWhy not?â
Jonah Wyton paused and exchanged glances with Kemp, both feeling a bit uneasy.
âBartlett, bro code! Donât let a woman come between us.â
Bartlett looked at Jonah dismissively, âEllinor is whose wife again?â
Jonah looked towards Theo.
At this moment, Theo was surrounded by Patricia and the child, unable to extricate himself.
Jonah Wyton thought for a moment and shrugged, â⦠True! Theo and Ellinor are pretty much done!â
Bartlettâs lips curled up in a smile, âYeah, I think so too.â
The Howard Groupâs car was on the road. Balfour was looking at his phone, his face expressionless.
Ellinor looked out the car window, noticing that they were on the highway late at night and not on the way to the city.
She asked, puzzled, âMr. Howard, where are we going?â
Balfour looked up from his phone screen at her, didnât answer her question, but instructed the driver, âStop.â
âAlright. The driver pulled the car into the emergency lane and slowly came to a stop.
Balfour nodded slightly, âMs. Mendoza, you can knock off now, get out.â
Ellinor was stunned and began frowning, âMr. Howard, weâre on the highway.â
A smirk appeared on Balfourâs lips, âWhere we are is not my concern. When I say you can knock off, you should get out and go home. No boss is obliged to give employees a ride home.â
