In the middle of a crowded subway, Ellinor was completely swayed by Theoâs wordsâ¦
Even though the subway was super noisy, he spoke so softly, it felt like she was the only one who could hear him.
Yet, she was blushing and feeling shy!
Without looking up at Theo, she chuckled softly, âI didnât save your life, you donât have to thank me.â
Theo held her tight, âWho said you didnât save me? You did, that rainy night, I know you were saving me.â
Ellinor froze for a moment, feeling awkward again when he brought up that nightâ¦
âThat day I got kidnapped, didnât you risk your life to save me? So, weâre even, you donât have to feel responsible for me!â
She was still trying her best to clarify their relationship, sometirnes Theo thought Ellinor was too smart for her own good, other times she was so naive it drove him crazy.
âYouâre so naive, but youâre a good kid, always acting so cold!â
Theo scolded her gently while ruffling her hair, âYouâre making light of it now, but I know you struggled a lot at the time to save me, night wasnât easy for you, itâs my fault you had to suffer.â
Ellinor was taken aback, her nose suddenly turned sour.
that No one had ever understood her feelings like this before, trying to figure out how she was feeling, seeing through her facade, and not mocking her.
Growing up, some people thought she was beneath them, they took joy in humiliating her when she couldnât fight back, completely ignoring her feelings.
Now that sheâs grown up and can protect herself, everyone thinks sheâs so strong that she canât be broken, that she doesnât have a vulnerable side.
This often led her to ignore her own feelings, fooling herself into thinking she had no fears, no weaknesses.
This man, he shattered that protective layer in her heartâ¦.
The man sighed suddenly, whispering. âLooks like, Iâm just not cut out for romance. The flower field I prepared for you that day went to waste, you barely looked at it before you left. Instead, I ended up confessing my feelings in this noisy, casual setting.â
Ellinor looked up in surprise, âWhat? The tulip field at Pearl Moon, that was for me?â
âWho else would it be for?â
âHmph, donât lie to me, how could that field of flowers be for me? That day in your public confession at The Bund of Trent River, you even said Patriciaâs name!â
âThat wasnât me.â
Theo didnât get angry at the misunderstanding, instead he patiently explained to her.
âIâve been investigating the matter these past few days, trying to figure out who was behind all that stuff that made you misunderstand me.â
Ellinor listened, blinkingâ¦
The man lowered his head, whispering seriously in her ear, âYou need to understand, my situation is complicated. I canât make a public confession, I wonât make a public confession to anyone. Thatâs just revealing my weakness, putting the other person in danger of being kidnapped and used against me.
So, I would never do something like that.â
Ellinor finally understood, she had been kidnapped last time and used to threaten Theo.
âIâve found out the truth about that matter, there happened to be someone with the same name in the LED advertisement on the Century Bank building that day, it was all just a coincidence and had nothing to do with me. If you donât believe me, I can take you to see their order.â
So thatâs what happened?
âWhen you were sitting alone at the Bund that day, looking at all that, were you cursing me in your heart?â
Ellinor felt embarrassed, then nodded honestly.
Yes, she had cursed him.
That day, she thought Theo had called her to Pearl Moon to watch him confess to Patricia, it was so unfair!
Now that she knew it wasnât true, she fell a bit ashamed.
Theo could understand Ellinorâs feelings, but he also felt helpless, reminding her, âNext time if I do something that makes you upset, you need to ask me directly, donât make assumptions on your own.â
Ellinor knew she had misunderstood Theo, she stopped being stubborn, âOkay, I got it.â
After clearing up the misunderstanding between them, Ellinor finally stopped resisting and being wary of him. Theo breathed a sigh of relief.
That day in the tulip field, she had disappeared quietly from Pearl Moon and he couldnât reach her.
He had spent the whole night searching for her in Greenhaven, her phone was unreachable, her cellphone was left at the police station, she hadnât gone home, there were no clues.
He was always worried that she would disappear one day.
Theo pulled her head into his chest, wishing he could hold her inside his body, not giving her a chance to leave.
After all, it is not a suitable place to talk on a crowded subway. Once they reached their stop. Theo took Ellinorâs hand and led her off the subway, planning to take her to get something good to eat.
