âYeah, I couldnât get through to my dad before, but Iâve been giving it my all, havenât I?â Regina thought.
She even said sheâd pay back all the money her dad owed him by herself. Wasnât that enough? What more did Nolan want from her?â
The moment Dahlia saw Nolan approach, she couldnât stop herself from stepping back.
âSo, you ditched me for her? Really? You threw away all our years together, our memories, our love, Nolan. Wow, youâve really got some nerve.â
Nolan retorted, âIâve never seen anyone play the victim as well as you do. You know perfectly well why I chose someone else. You just refuse to admit it. Years have passed; itâs high time you faced the fact that we canât go back. You made your choice. Are you seriously thinking of backing, out now?â
âYes!â Dahlia surged forward and grabbed Nolanâs arm. âYes, I want to take it all back. I never should have left you to study abroad. Then I wouldnât have come back to find some other woman by your side.
I shouldâve been Mrs. Harris, not her. I was your childhood sweetheart. How could for someone youâve only known for a few months? Have you forgotten what sheâs done to you?â
Tears streamed down Dahliaâs face as the onlookers began to whisper, âTsk, tsk, tsk. Looks like another guy whoâs changed his tune. Theyâre all the same, arenât they? No good, any of them.â
âMaybe most guys are no good, but Mr. Harris here is loaded; he doesnât need to pull a stunt like this.â
âEver heard the saying âwith money comes mischiefâ? And Nolan is filthy rich. Who knows how many hearts heâs played with? Just look at those two beauties, all heartbroken over him. If I were a guy, Iâd be living it up too.â
A coworker sneered at the manâs comment. âSounds like youâre just bitter because youâre not the one with the cash. If you were as rich, youâd probably break more womenâs hearts than Nolan! Now you have the nerve to speculate about Nolanâs love life? Maybe youâve just lived too long.â
âYou! You women think of nothing but looks and money. Canât you talk about anything else?â
âAs if you men donât care about a pretty face and a reputation! Who are you trying to fool?â Regina listened quietly from the side, surprised by all the history between Nolan and Dahlia. But if they hadnât gotten together after all these years, didnât that just prove they werenât meant to be?
If there was mutual interest, why werenât they together?
With this in mind, Regina stepped forward, hoping to calm Dahlia down. There was no need to make a scene in public. After all, Regina was a public figure, and this spectacle wasnât good for her reputation.
However, Dahlia insulted, âOh, cut the act. Youâre probably thrilled that I got dumped and want the world to know, right? You might even be using me to publicize your marriage to Nolan. As a woman, I know exactly what youâre up to.â
Regina nearly laughed at the absurdity. If Dahlia hadnât shown up at her company like a madwoman, how would anyone have found out?
Was Dahlia suggesting that her barging in was part of her master plan?
âIf you canât accept the truth, then let me spell it out for you again. Nolan and I are married. Legally, rightfully, we are husband and wife. Iâd appreciate it if you stopped harassing my husband.â
Regina, now heated, didnât care about holding back. She took Nolanâs arm firmly, standing by him as his wife, and demanded Dahlia leave.
Looking pitifully at Nolan, Dahlia pleaded, âNolan, are you just going to let her treat me . this way? Can you really stand by and watch me run away in front of all these people?â
