ince you have given me your word, Iâve got nothing to worry about, Mr. Harris. I bet >lett will be over the moon once he hears the news.â
egina folded her arms, portraying the look of someone who had reluctantly agreed not meddle further.
ut Nolan knew she wouldnât just fall in line. âLet me remind you one more time, Ms. anner, donât you try snooping around that developer. If anything untoward happens, no ne will be able to save your skin.â
olanâs voice was stern, compelling Regina to hod obediently.
Alright, youâve made your point, and Iâm not one to court danger. Iâve asked all I wanted, nd youâve given your answers. So, letâs leave it at that.â Regina was quick on her feet, tuffing her papers into her bag and marching out.
lolan remained seated, chuckling to himself. It had been a long time since anyone had ared to leave before him.
Only Regina had the guts to pull that off. Just before she exited, she turned around with a nowing smile.
Volan was puzzled.
âYou might not realize it, Mr. Harris, but when youâre feeling guilty, you always fiddle with your fingertips.
Glad to have made that little discovery. Ta-ta!â
Without a backward glance, Regina departed, leaving Nolan alone to ponder the meaning behind her last remark.
Regina strolled out of the café, feeling invigorated despite Nolanâs less-than-pleasant responses. She figured she had his measure now.
At least the man was sincere in his assistance, not just offering a helping hand for the sake of some cooperation with the Tanner family or out of respect for her father.
It was only when she caught her reflection in the rear-view mirror that she noticed the flush on her cheeks, hot enough to fry an egg.
Burying her face in the steering wheel, she couldnât suppress her smile. She hadnât been keen on marrying quickly, but the prospect didnât seem too bad if it was with someone she genuinely liked and liked her back.
With a smile, Regina drove away.
Nolan hadnât expected Regina to notice such a trivial habit of his, nor was he aware of when he had inadvertently pressed his fingertips while speaking.
âAh well,â he sighed with a hint of resignation.
09:17 He was still smiling when Dahliaâs call came through.
âHello?â
Dahliaâs voice was as sweet as ever, a stark contrast to her public persona.
And Nolanâs tone softened, âWhatâs up? Calling me out of the blue.â
âCanât I just call you? Thereâs this new movie out starring my favorite actor. Come with me, wonât you?â
Excitement laced Dahliaâs voice, but Nolan hesitated. âWith your current fame, wouldnât you get snapped by the paparazzi if we go out?â
Dahlia pouted. âFame? What fame? That interview hasnât even been published yet. I could walk down Main Street, and nobody would bat an eyelid. So, are you in or not?â
Imagining Dahlia with her lips pursed, Nolan finally nodded in agreement, âAlright, Iâll accompany you.
But if we end up on some gossipy front page with unflattering shots, donât come crying to me.â
