âIsnât that Mara? Why on earth is her picture here?â Ivy asked.
Balfour furrowed in confusion.
Ivy felt a twinge of annoyance. Today, only a handful of people had come by, and apart from Mara, who else would slip the photo under her pillow?
Just as Balfour reached to take the photo, Ivy suddenly halted him.
âWait a sec, let me take another look at this picture. The girl doesnât quite look like Mara.â
She scrutinized the photo, her brows knitting together. The photo was old, its edges frayed and beginning to split, even the plastic cover was peeling away.
âLook here, this girl in the picture has a mole on her cheek, but Mara doesnât. Are you sure this is her?â
Balfour leaned in closer, saying with certainty, âThatâs her sister.â
Ivyâs heart skipped a beat, a bittersweet feeling washing over her. Maraâs sister⦠the girl who died for Balfour.
She wished she could have known Balfour sooner, to have shared those experiences with him herself.
But alas, fate had other plans.
Balfour tactfully shifted the conversation, âLetâs not talk about others right now.â
But Ivy couldnât shake off the strangeness of the photo.
âGive me the photo. Iâll find time to ask Mara about it. She said she wanted to bless us, to not harbor any other thoughts, but leaving her sisterâs photo here seems intentional, like sheâs trying to stir up trouble. I bet she hasnât given up on you! And thereâs something off about this photo. Iâll bring it to the set and have Caspian take a look; his eyes are much keener than mine.â
Caspian was the setâs ace photographer, known for his expertise in capturing stills for various productions.
He had been with Colton for years, acting as his go-to publicity photographer.
Ivy had once stumbled upon the art of photography in a chat with him, only to discover his prowess in the craft.
Art often speaks in universal tongues, and their discussions sometimes became so engrossing theyâd forget the time and the shooting schedule. Unmindful of her costume, Ivy would squat in a corner, deeply engaged in conversation with him. When particularly inspired, Caspian would even take his camera out and demonstrate on the spot how to harness light and shadow to snap the perfect shot.
âAn actorâs best asset is their bone structure, beyond the beauty of the skin. Of course, your skin is pretty exceptional too. Iâve been in this industry for years and never came across someone as photogenic as you,â Caspian would remark, genuinely impressed. For them, everything captured by the lens was a work of art, and Ivyâs face was no exception.
âOnce we wrap up this film, you come find me anytime and Iâll shoot a portrait series just for you.â
Ivy was surprised. Besides shooting for Colton, Caspian wasnât one to enjoy portrait photography, often claiming that people carried too much restlessness within them.
It was rare for him to show interest in photographing a person.
âReally?â
Her surprise was cut short when Colton slapped the back of her head, âIâve been calling you for the past five minutes. Are you coming to shoot or not? What, you donât wanna work anymore?â
âOw, sorry, I didnât catch that, my bad, Colton!â
Caspian, taking a drag from his cigarette, chuckled alongside them.
