Alyssaâs fingers clutched her cellphone so tightly that her knuckles turned white with the strain.
âWhat on earth has happened?â Dean felt a lump in his throat; observing the pallor on his wifeâs face, he braced himself for bad news.
Yet, she kept him in the dark, which only added to his unease.
âCome on! Letâs pack our bags and head to Central Hospital.â
Alyssa was all hustle and bustle, getting their things together in no time.
Dean trailed behind, his questions flying fast and furious, âWhy the hospital? Whoâs in trouble?â
âOur darling, Ivy. She was just doing her scene on set when something went wrong. Poor Ivy!â
After hearing this, Dean didnât linger either. They both hurried, urging the driver to rush them to the hospital where Ivy was being treated.
Upon arriving outside the emergency room, they saw two people from the production crew waiting anxiously.
âWhy are you all lined up outside the room like some sort of honor guard?â Alyssaâs worry for Ivy came out as fiery irritation.
Colton stepped forward and explained apologetically, âIâm terribly sorry. Ivy had an accident while filming in the water. Itâs my fault. I didnât notice she had been under water for over thirty seconds.â
âUnderwater? Didnât anyone check for hazards before filming? How could you let her go in the water, knowing how afraid she is?â
Alyssaâs simple question silenced him.
âIt was the actressâs own request. Ivy insisted on doing the scene without a stunt double,â the producer stated sternly, conveying these words with a sense of reluctance.
It was not the desire outcome for them either. However, given that Ivy herself requested to shoot the scene without a stunt double, solely blaming the director seemed unfair in this context.
Upon hearing this, Alyssa didnât say a word. She dismissed everyone and stayed at the hospital with Dean.
âYou shouldnât have spoken up for me just now. Alyssa and Dean are clearly furious. Their granddaughter-in-law goes out for a dayâs shoot, and now sheâs lying in the hospital room, hooked up to an oxygen tank. Iâd be beside myself too Colton remarked to the producer.
The producer sighed deeply, his face etched with concern. âDo you think I want to defend you?
Someoneâs trying to make us the scapegoat. Can you withstand that?â
Alyssa was fuming with nowhere to vent her anger!
Her granddaughter-in-law was in there breathing through an oxygen mask, and they dared to question her?
She took a deep breath and stepped into the stairwell corner with her phone, clearly about to call Balfour.
Dean shook his head, his gaze returning to Ivy, peacefully resting.
âHello?â The voice on the other end was robust and healthy.
âYou rascal, what are you up to?â Alyssaâs anger bubbled under a deceptively calm tone.
âIâm in the middle of closing a deal. Whatâs up, Grandma?â
âDeal, deal, deal, thatâs all you think about. Did you know your wife is in the hospital on oxygen right now?â
What!
Balfour bolted upright!
âWhat happened to Ivy?â
Alyssa let out a cold laugh, âWorried now, are you? Iâll only tell you this â your wifeâs in a critical condition in the emergency room! Whether you come back or not is up to you!â
Balfourâs head throbbed as he grasped the gravity of the situation. He couldnât believe that in just a few days of his absence, Ivy had been admitted to the ER.
âIâm on my way back!â
The thought of Ivy lying in a hospital bed was enough to send Balfour racing home.
