âMorning, Ivy! Break a leg today!â Ryan called out with his usual boisterous charm.
Ryan was quite enthusiastic. Every morning, he greeted Ivy with such an ease that it lifted her spirits, a stark contrast to the oppressive moods of the past.
âAnd a one, two, three, action!â
The scene was set on the beach, a place that held dear childhood memories for the lead character. On this sandy stage, she and David had a very important scene together.
She had overheard from the other townsfolk that David was planning to leave soon. She confronted him, asking if he was truly about to depart for a world she had never known.
It was meant to be a heart-wrenching scene, yet Colton, the director, insisted that Ivy not burst into tears right from the start.
And yet, as soon as the cameras rolled and she faced the man she had quickly fallen for, who was now about to leave, Ivy couldnât hold back her tears.
âWhy wouldnât you tell me? Did you think I would cling to you and never let go?â
Davidâs face was a portrait of compassion as he saw her distress.
âNo, thatâs not it at all. I didnât think that of you. I just didnât know how to tell you, nor could I find the right moment,â David said, a sad smile breaking through his sorrow. âDarling, would you come away with me? Leave this city and return to my hometown? Iâve often thought of taking you there. Iâve held your hand and walked the paths of your upbringing. Now, we have this opportunity. Would you come with me back to where I come from?â
David stretched out his arms towards her, ready to envelop her in a comforting embrace⦠Ivy was too deep in character, and the thought of this man being torn from her world brought real tears of agony.
âCut! Ivy, pull it back. Youâre not supposed to cry yet,â Coltonâs voice came through the intercom, tinged with a hint of severity.
Sniffling, Ivy watched as the makeup artist hurried over for touch-ups. She apologized to the crew, expressing her regret for the retake.
âIâm so sorry, guys. I didnât mean for my mistake to cause a reshoot.â
The makeup artist, touching up Ivyâs face, reassured her with a smile. âItâs okay, youâre so talented that one retake doesnât matter. Donât be too hard on yourself.â
Ryan teased her with a grin, âMs. Dunhill, youâre usually a one-take wonder. Youâve set the bar high for us all. Now, youâve finally come down to earth with the rest of us mortals.â
Ivy offered a faint smile in return, not indulging in much conversation.
Everyone had their own interpretation of the script, yet it was the director who steered that collective understanding Despite Nyâs more nuanced control over her emotions on the second take, tears still escaped, much to the directorâs displeasure âKeep those tears in check. There will be a time for them later he said.
Ryan too was puzzled. He felt it was only natural for the heroine to cry in a scene of impending separation.
âColton, why canât she cry here? I donât see what was off about the emotion in that last take,â Ryan questioned Colton.
