Thaddeus didnât want to part ways. He was deeply in love with this woman. Otherwise, he wouldnât have humbled himself to come looking for her.
âBertha, I know you donât like Sophia, but sheâs my own flesh and blood. I canât abandon her.â
Bertha replied indifferently. âI donât dislike Sophia. Sheâs the one who doesnât like me and refuses to accept me. I donât want to force her, and I donât want to force myself either, Thaddeus. I hope you can understand my decision.â
Thaddeus was frantic. âI canât understand! We canât just get a divorce like this. Weâve spent most of our lives together. Marriage isnât something you can just walk away from!â
Bertha looked helpless. âThaddeusâ¦â
Thaddeus raised his hand to stop her from speaking. âEnough! If youâre willing to come back with me, then we can all go back together as a family. If youâre not, then Iâll have someone bring my belongings over, and Iâll live here with you!â
Bertha furrowed her brows. âWhat are you doing? Are you going to act like a child at your age?â
Their daughter, Lea, interrupted them. âDad, youâre not put off by this pigeon coop anymore?â
Thaddeus waved her off. âShoo! Iâm talking to your mother. Youâre still a kid, so donât interrupt. Bertha, tell me, are you coming back with me? Or should I live here with you?â Bertha was at a loss for words.
She knew Thaddeus well enough. He was a man of his word, and he would actually have his belongings moved over.
This was a place owned by an old friend of hers who could come back at any moment.
Just as Bertha was worrying about how to talk to Thaddeus, Lea suddenly stood up and whispered something into her ear.
After hearing what Lea had to say, Bertha was stunned. She then looked at her daughter, seriously considering whether her suggestion was feasible.
Seeing this, Thaddeus frowned deeply. âLea, what kind of harebrained idea are you giving your mother now?â
Lea shrugged innocently. âDad, all I did was try to convince Mom to go back with you. Stop blaming me, okay?â
Still skeptical, Thaddeus turned to his wife. âBertha, what did Lea tell you?â
Bertha snapped back to reality and looked at him. âLea suggested that weâd go back with you now, on one condition.â
Thaddeus was overjoyed to hear this. âOkay, tell me. Iâll agree to any condition, as long as itâs within my power. Even if you want the moon, Iâll get it for you.â
Lea clapped her hands. âYay! Dad, you better keep your word. Iâm bearing witness here.â
Thaddeus gave his daughter a stern look. He knew she must have come up with some crazy idea, but how bad could it be?, âMom, tell Dad our condition quickly, so he canât back out later.â Lea urged.
Bertha looked deeply into Thaddeusâs eyes. âThaddeus, if you promise me this one thing, Lea and I will go back with you right now. You need to let Marcus go back to his real family and Let him be reunited with his real wife.â
Thaddeus was stunned. He never imagined that this would be his wifeâs condition.
Marcus was Sophiaâs husband now. Just this morning, Sophia had taken him to the hospital to prepare for an artificial insemination. How could Marcus possibly go back to his old life and his-real wife at this point?
Sophia would never agree to this. It was impossible!
