Ellinor sat across from him, resting her head on her hand as she looked at him dreamily. âMan, who were you just texting? It wasnât me, was it?â
Marcus snapped out of his thoughts and quickly glanced upstairs to make sure Sophia and her father hadnât come down yet. His nerves relaxed a bit, and he looked back at Ellinor. He was in no mood for banter. âQuit fooling around. You and Tristan need to leave now. You canât let Sophiaâs father see you.
Go!â
Ellinor suppressed a smile. âWhatâs there to be afraid of?â
Her nonchalant attitude made Marcus a bit anxious. âIâm not joking with you right now!â
Ellinor smiled. âI know. Donât worry; I have it under control.â
Under control?
What control?!
If she really had it under control, she wouldnât be here!
While Ellinor and Marcus were talking, Tristan, who had come down with Ellinor, was sizing up Adrian, who was sitting next to Marcus.
How strange!
It was like looking in a mirror.
Adrian and Tristan were seeing each other face-to-face for the first time, and they couldnât believe how much they looked alike.
Lea was dumbfounded for a moment and then looked at Ellinor with a mix of respect and curiosity.
âMadam, why did you come down? My parents just went upstairs to find you. Did you see them?â
Ellinor looked at Lea and shook her head. âNo. Didnât I tell you that your parents donât need to thank me?â
Lea insisted. âMadam, they owe you their lives. My mom really wants to thank you in person. Plus, they didnât believe me when I said Iâd found you. I need to prove I really did.â
Ellinor felt helpless at Leaâs persistence, but she wouldnât cooperate.
At first, she didnât know that the woman she had helped was Thaddeusâs wife, and she didnât want to meet her.
Now that she knew, she wanted to meet her even less.
Honestly, she somewhat regretted saving Thaddeusâ wife.
Thaddeus, for his own daughterâs desire, didnât hesitate to build his daughterâs happiness on other peopleâs pain, separating her and Theo for over three years. He even caused Theo to lose his memory and completely forget her!
People like Thaddeus should know what it was like to lose a loved one..
But on second thought, Thaddeusâs wife and young daughter were innocent, and she shouldnât take out her anger on them.
Seeing that she was still sitting there calmly, Marcus guessed that Thaddeus and Sophia would soon come downstairs when they couldnât find their savior upstairs, so he urged her to go. âWonât you leave?â
Ellinor raised an eyebrow. âWhy should I leave?â
Marcus frowned. âDo you really want them to see you and the kid? I canât stand up right now. If anything unpredictable happens, I wonât be able to do anything. Please donât make me worry.â
Ellinor remained unhurried. She picked up his glass and took a slow sip of water, then put the glass back next to him. âLike I said, I have it under control. You donât need to worry. You canât protect me now, but I can protect you.â
Marcus deeply furrowed his brows and looked upstairs again. âTheyâll be down any minute!â
Ellinor hummed in acknowledgment. âSo what if they come down? I can still leave when they do.â
Youâ¦
Lea looked at Ellinor, then at Marcus, like she had discovered something unbellevable. Her bright eyes widened as she exclaimed, âWow! It really is different!â
