Then Ida heard a loud bellow from Chase on the other end of the phone, and the call abruptly ended.
Ida fell silent.
She wondered what that man was up to this time.
After pocketing her cellphone, Ida returned to the living room. âBoss, I got a hold of him. He said heâs on his way. You just gotta hang tight for a bit.â
Ellinor furrowed her brows. She was visibly irritated.
âBoss, have you had breakfast yet? Can I toast a couple of slices of bread for you?â
Ellinor glanced at Ida. She wasnât hungry, but she knew that Ida and Byran had just woken up and hadnât had their breakfast yet, so she nodded and gave a small affirmation.
Ida let out a sigh of relief and headed to the kitchen.
As soon as she entered the kitchen, Byran sidled up to her. âIda, why is my sis so scary today? Is it all because Chase didnât tell her about his wedding in advance? Is that really necessary?â
Ida rapped Byran on the head. âWhat do you know? Donât gossip about your sister behind her back. Go turn on the toaster; we need a few slices of toast.â
Byran rubbed his head and shrugged. âIf youâre gonna boss me around, fine, but why hit me?â
Meanwhile, elsewhere..
After Chase took the plunge from the bungee jumping platform, he reveled in the thrilling sensation of swinging high in the air.
Eventually, the staff pulled him up and unlatched the cord.
Try t The staff member marveled at him. âSir, I guide hundreds of people in bungee jumping every day, and you are by far the calmest. Arenât you scared at all? Have you done this before?â
Chase grinned. âNope, itâs my first time, and itâs quite fun.â
The staff member couldnât help but praise him. âSir, I must say youâre incredible.â
Chase laughed it off and stepped off the platform to find Belinda, who had come with him.
Belinda was waiting anxiously in the waiting area behind the platform. When she saw him come down, she rushed over to check. âAre youâ¦are you okay?â
Chase looked at Belinda, whose face had gone pale with fear, and smiled. âIâm fine. It was actually quite exhilarating.â
Belinda stared at him. âSo, you werenât scared at all?â
Chase chuckled. âWhatâs there to be scared of when Iâm strapped to a cord? Didnât you want me to prove my love for you by bungee jumping? Now Iâve proven it, havenât I? My feelings for you are genuine.â
Belinda blinked awkwardly. âIâ¦I regret it now. I shouldnât have made you bungee jump; I shouldâve made you skydive. That doesnât have a cord, so Iâd like to see if youâre scared then.ââ
Clearly, Belinda wasnât serious. Chase shrugged and smiled, reaching out to caress her pale face. âAre you still going on about this? Look at you; you didnât even jump, but just watching me made you scared and pale. And now you dare suggest I skydive?â
Belinda was genuinely shaken. From the moment Chase stepped on the platform, she began to worry and regret forcing him to prove his feelings for her in this way.
What if the cord snapped?
She knew sheâd blame herself for the rest of her life.
No, she wouldnât be able to live with herself. Sheâd jump after him.
Thankfully, nothing happened.
Chase knew she was worried for him, so he pulled her into his arms. âIâm fine. If you want me to skydive, Iâll do it, but not today. Today, we need to get back and explain our marriage to Ellinor.â
Belinda looked up at him and was a little startled. âWhatâs wrong with Ellinor? Does she still object to us being together?â
