Bartlett paused for a moment as his lips curled up slightly with a hint of mockery. âSo, as her brother, youâre gonna just forget the family feud and let her marry into the enemy family?â
Balfour, looking serious, said, âIt wasnât easy finding Ellinor; I donât want her to feel upset. Iâll do my best to give her whatever she wants, even if itâs marrying into the Blanchet family. If Theo dares to mess with her again, heâll pay!â
Bartlett stared at Balfour for a moment, then made a scared face. âHaving a brother like you is terrifying.â
Balfour shrugged it off. âIf youâre afraid of me, you can stay away.â
Bartlett laughed. âBalfour, as a friend, have you ever considered me as your brother-in-law? Iâd treat Ellinor way better than Theo.â
Balfour said straightforwardly, âShe doesnât like you.â
The smile on Bartlettâs face stiffened for a moment, and then he shrugged. âJust because she doesnât like me now doesnât mean she wonât in the future, right?â
Balfour squinted. âMy sister, like me, will never change her mind about someone she didnât like in the first place.â
Bartlett found his response boring and waved his hand. âYouâre so dull! Who could you possibly like?
Iâve never seen you like anyone for as long as Iâve known you. Ellinorâs not as cold-hearted as you!â
Balfour fell silent.
Bartlett put down his coffee and stood up. âI wonât bother you anymore; Iâm gonna go try my luck with Ellinor.â
Although Balfour was unhappy, he didnât stop him and let him go. Winning Ellinorâs heart wasnât that easy.
Ellinor was eating a skewer when Bartlett suddenly came over and took the empty seat next to her, saying, âEllinor, you seem to be enjoying that. Can I try a piece?â
Ellinor glanced at him. âIf you want to try, go ahead.â
She was referring to the skewers on the table, but to her surprise, Bartlett directly took the one she was halfway through eating..
Caught off guard, Ellinor didnât have time to refuse. Heâd already taken a bite, and there was no point in taking it back now.
Ignoring Bartlett, Ellinor decided not to eat anymore and picked up her drink.
After tasting it, Bartlett laughed and said, âItâs really good, Ellinor; if you like it, I can buy it for you more often.â
Ellinor took a sip of her drink and declined indifferently. âNo need; when I want to eat it, Iâll buy it myself.â
Bartlett smiled. âI mean, if youâre not free, I can buy it for you.â
âThatâs not necessary either. I can order delivery.â
Bartlett looked helpless. âNot giving me a chance at all, huh?â
Ellinor glanced at him. âWhat opportunity do you want?â
Bartlett didnât hesitate to say, âThe opportunity to be your future boyfriend.â
Ellinor laughed. âDonât even think about it. Itâs impossible!â
Bartlett pretended to sigh distressingly. âEllinor, are you really gonna forgive Theo? Going back to him might not be such a good idea.â
On the side, Chase and Ida could understand Bartlettâs motives. They knew what was going on but didnât voice it or get involved. They trusted that Ellinor could handle this little issue herself.
