Byran blinked as he looked out to see his brotherâs ride pulling up.
The black business car parked at the front of the gate. The driver got out to open the door and out stepped Balfour.
Sophia stared at Balfour in a daze, quickly putting on a bitter smile. Her voice was hoarse; it was clear that she had been crying.
âSo, Mr. Howard is back.â
Balfour took a couple steps forward while squinting at Sophia with a scrutinizing gaze and casually asked, âAnd you are?â
Sophia was taken aback. He didnât remember her?
Despite Balfour rarely showing his face at social events, theyâd met at a few important business dinners and even had close conversations.
Realizing that she had been forgotten, Sophia felt a bit bummed but didnât let it show, only responding with a bitter smile.
âMr. Howard, hi, Iâm Theoâs friend, Sophia. Weâve met before, donât you remember?â
After hearing her describe herself as Theoâs friend, the indifference in Balfourâs eyes was now mixed with a hint of suspicion.
âWhat brings you to my house?â
Sophia said, âAs Iâve explained to Byran earlier, I heard Ellinor was staying here and thought Iâd drop by. I brought her some special supplements that are great for pregnant women.â
â
Saying this, she held up the supplements in her hand.
Balfour didnât even spare a glance at the supplements. His house lacked nothing; Ellinor could have any supplement she wanted.
âShe needs some peace and quiet, so she canât see anyone right now. You should head back.â.
With that cold remark, Balfour walked straight past Sophia.
Sophia didnât give up though. She furrowed her brows and turned to shout at Balfourâs retreating back.
âMr. Howard, I know why you wonât let me see Ellinor!â
Balfour paused. âIf you know why, then you shouldnât have come.
Sophia insisted, âBut donât you think itâs unfair to Ellinor? She has a right to know everything!â
Balfourâs tone was steady. âShe does have a right, but not now.â
Balfour turned around; his eyes were menacing, as if he were trying to warn her that he had already seen through her motives. He sternly told her, âEven if she blames me later, itâs my business. Donât stick your nose in it!â
Sophiaâs face was etched in grief. âYou guys have no right to deprive Ellinor of this news! She should be saying her goodbyes to Theo. She has his child in her belly, so she must mourn the childâs fatherâs passing!â
Balfour was getting impatient with her. He shouted out a command to the servants in his deep voice.
âSomeone, show the lady out! I donât want to see this impolite woman at my doorstep ever again!â
âYes, sir!â
A few servants came over and escorted Sophia out.
After watching Sophia being led away, Byran looked at Balfour, who had come home unexpectedly early, and began feeling uneasy. âWhat was that chick talking about? What happened to Theo? What goodbye? What mourning?â

Balfour coldly stared at him; his gaze showed his disappointment. âIf I hadnât come back just now, were you planning on letting that woman, who we barely know, in?â
Byran scratched his head. âWell⦠She was crying⦠She looked really pitiful, so I thought Iâd let her stay for a bit, but I was planning to keep an eye on her! Plus, I know she really is Theoâs friend!â
Balfour lightly thumped him on the head. âWhat does someone elseâs crying have to do with you?â
