Who did he think he was?
If Jacob didnât want to work here, Belindaâs uncle could find him a job at the Blanchet Corporation.
Chase seemed to notice Belindaâs distress, and his smile grew deeper. âBelinda, can you come to my office?â
Belinda was slightly taken aback.
Chase actually asked her to go to his office?
She didnât even want to look at Chase. She stood with her back to him, never giving him a straight look.

Belinda didnât think twice and declined his request for her to go to his office, answering him with her back turned. âMr. Larios, Iâm no longer an employee of Crescent Society, so itâs not really appropriate for me to go to your office.â
Chaseâs tone was serious but still casual. âUntil you officially leave, youâre still an employee here.
Please cooperate.â
Belinda replied with dissatisfaction. âSorry, I canât cooperate. Iâve decided to quit.â
She didnât look back at him. Chase walked around to her front, looked down at her eyes, and gently said, âCome to my office; letâs talk about your resignation. Itâll make it easier when youâre looking for a job in the future.â
Jacob was Belindaâs boyfriend. He certainly didnât want to see another man treating his girlfriend this way, but he couldnât do anything about it. After all, that man was his boss.
Belinda was also a bit annoyed at Chaseâs misleading attitude, but what could she do? She didnât want to hear any more of his annoying words. Ignoring Chase, she said to her boyfriend, Jacob. âIâm going to handle my resignation first, then we can go grab a bite.â
Jacob looked at his girlfriend with a bit of worry. He instinctively didnât want her to go to Mr. Lariosâ
office, but he couldnât control the situation, so he just nodded.
Then Belinda followed Chase to his office.
âMr. Larios, whatâs up? If thereâs something, spit it out. My boyfriend is waiting for me.â
Chase closed the office door, shrugged off his coat and threw it on the sofa, loosened his tie, and sat at his desk. âSo, having a boyfriend now makes talking to me a chore?â
Belinda sarcastically laughed. âIâm not like you. You can be flirty with all the girls, but Iâm not. When I have a boyfriend, I pay attention to boundaries. I have a responsibility to my boyfriend.â
Chase laughed.
His laugh offended Belinda. She frowned and asked, âWhatâs so funny?â
After Chase finished laughing, he looked at her with his arm propped up. âSo, are you really planning on marrying that little employee, Jacob?â Belinda frowned even more, and her tone became very serious. âOf course! Every time I date, itâs for marriage. I donât play games with my feelings! And whatâs wrong with a little employee? Donât underestimate him!
Chase squinted slightly. âSo you were chasing me because you wanted to marry me?â
This question stunned Belinda, her cheeks turning red with embarrassment. âAs much as I hate to admit it now, yes! I was chasing you, hoping to marry you! But now, Iâve woken up. I know that you donât value me. You donât even mention marriage. You wouldnât choose a boring, non-fun-loving woman like me! So donât worry, I wonât bother you anymore!â
Chase was looking at her, but she didnât look back at him when she was speaking, clearly avoiding eye contact.
That was a sign that showed that she cared him.
If she didnât care about Chase, she wouldnât deliberately avoid eye contact.
Chase squinted. âSo what if I tell you now that Iâm willing to have a serious relationship with you?â
Belindaâs heart skipped a beat after she heard Chase say this.
Whatâ¦what did he just say?
