Ida didnât stop peeling the apple, her slender fingers working skillfully as she finished the last round.
She cut off a small slice, offered it to Ellinorâs mouth, and said, âNo worries, itâs not a big deal. Before you guys were pals, I looked after Ellinor.â
Belinda blinked, watching Ida gently feed Ellinor apple slices. Something felt offâ¦
Although she worked at Crescent Society, she didnât have much contact with Ms. Gipson. The woman was a workaholic, not chatty, and kinda of cold, which made people keep their distance.
However, in front of Ellinor, Ms. Gipson seemed totally different. Her coldness disappeared, and there was even a warm vibe.
Belinda had never seen Ms. Gipson behave like this with anyone else.
As Belinda was deep in thought, Veronica, who never minced her words, grumbled, âMy brother sure has a lot of competitors. Even a woman wants to steal his wife!â
Belinda frowned, asking Veronica to zip it!
Ida, hearing Veronicaâs words, didnât take it to heart. She cut another apple slice for Ellinor, âBoss, since Mr. Blanchet is out of town, why donât you stay with us after you leave the hospital? I donât feel comfortable leaving you alone at the Blanchetâs place.â
Ellinor, munching on her apple, considered Idaâs proposal.
Veronica immediately cut in, âNo way! Sheâs a part of the Blanchet family now. How could she just go and live with you guys? I feel even more uneasy! Everyoneâs eyeing Ellinor like a hawk!â
Ellinor smirked, wondering what Veronica was scheming now.
Ida glanced at Veronica, a faint light reflecting off her goldârimmed glasses, âMs. Blanchet, youâre overthinking. Iâm just worried that the Blanchet household wonât take good care of our boss. This has nothing to do with your brother.â
Ellinor fell silent.
Idaâs words only added to the confusion.
Veronica quickly stepped forward, pushing Ida away as if sheâd seen a ghost, âEllinor, did you hear that? This woman is definitely up to no good. Stay away from her! Be careful she doesnât take advantage of you!â
Ellinor twitched her mouth and said, âYouâre even more suspicious than your brother! Alright, stop fussing. Sheâs a childhood friend of mine. You should call her âsister.â
Veronica cast a wary glance at Ida, thinking there was more to this woman than meets the eye. She sure as hell wasnât going to call her âsisterâ!
âWith my brother not around, I have a duty to keep an eye on his wife and prevent anyone from making a move.â
Ellinor fell silent.
Ida didnât pay Veronica any mind. She put down the apple, adjusted her glasses, and stood up, âBoss, Iâm going to wash my hands.â
Ellinor yawned and nodded. She noticed Belinda frequently glancing at Chase, seeming a bit distracted. Ellinor frowned, thought for a while, and then said, âBelinda.â
