âBecause you said outside you were worried Putnam and Marissa might interrupt our chit-chat, thatâs why I brought you to this soundproof room, is there something you wanna get off your chest? Donât worry. No one can hear us in here.â
Is this room really soundproof?
Hearing this, Haillie couldnât help but think a lot. She thought Ellinor was shameless, implying she and Theo were lovey-dovey!
However, Ellinor had no such intention and just continued munching her lunch.
Haillie, arms crossed, watched her eat with disgust. âEllinor, are you knocked up?â
Ellinor paused for a second, then smiled, âYep, I am.â
Haillie frowned and started to question, âDoes Theo know about this? Do the elders of the Blanchet family know?â
Ellinor replied, âOf course Theo knows, but the Blanchet familyâs old folks might not. We havenât made it public yet, afraid they might freak out.â
Haillie looked at her, puzzled and scoffed, âEllinor, Iâve never met a woman as shameless as you. You did such a thing without feeling guilty, and youâre even acting all high and mighty.â
Ellinor didnât understand what she meant, chewed on her meat, then glanced at her, âHaillie, how am I shameless? If youâre gonna call me names, at least have a reason.
Haillie was getting annoyed, âIsnât there enough evidence?â
Ellinor replied, âYouâre calling me shameless without any proof. Isnât that baseless?â
Haillie was infuriated by her attitude, âEllinor, stop beating around the bush! Iâm talking about something important here!â
Ellinor looked at her, munching away, âWhat important stuff? I didnât catch that.â
Haillie gritted her teeth, âStop playing dumb! Arenât we talking about your pregnancy? Isnât that crucial?â
Ellinor nodded, âYeah, thatâs crucial. I already answered you, Iâm indeed pregnant. As for those so-
called sins youâre talking about, I have no clue and never do them.â
Haillie laughed sarcastically, âYouâve done no wrong? Then tell me, whose kid is it that youâre carrying?â
Ellinor was taken aback, then laughed, âWhose kid? Who else could it be but Theoâs?â
Haillie stared at her, disgusted, âQuit the act. Patricia already spilled the beans! The kid is not Theoâs at all; youâre just exploiting his trust in you, using this pregnancy to win his favor again!â
Ellinor found it amusing and was curious about how Patricia had manipulated Haillie.
Then, I put down my cutlery, took a sip of water, and asked, âWho do you guys think the father is?â
Haillie really didnât want to say it because the âtruthâ Patricia told her was hard for her to swallow. She clenched her teeth and was silent for a long time before she finally said, âIsnât the kid in your belly Balfourâs?â
