Amelia's POV

After class ended, I gathered my books and slowly made my way to the door, my thoughts still tangled in memories of the past and questions about the present. I had almost reached the hallway when I heard a familiar voice.

"Amelia?"

I turned to see Akira standing a few steps behind me, his expression a mixture of curiosity and something deeper—maybe hesitation or uncertainty. His presence brought a flood of emotions, and I struggled to keep my composure.

"Akira," I replied, my voice steadier than I felt. "It's been a long time."

He nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "It has. I didn't expect to see you here."

"Neither did I," I admitted. "How... how have you been?"

For a moment, we stood there, awkward yet familiar, two people who had shared a past but were now strangers in many ways.

"I've been good," Akira said after a pause. "A lot has changed since we last saw each other."

"Yeah, a lot," I agreed, feeling the weight of all that had happened in the years since we were last together. "What brings you here?"

"My father is again transferred here," he explained. "I thought it would be a good opportunity to experience something different, to learn in a new environment."

Our conversation felt stilted, the easy camaraderie of our childhood replaced by the complexities of adulthood. But beneath the surface, I could sense the bond we once shared, waiting to be rediscovered.

"I never thought I'd see you again," I said softly, the words escaping before I could stop them.

"Me neither," Akira replied, his gaze holding mine. "But here we are."

We stood in silence for a moment, the unspoken history between us filling the space. Finally, Akira broke the silence. "Do you want to catch up? Maybe grab a coffee?"

I hesitated, unsure of what to say. The idea of reconnecting with Akira was both thrilling and terrifying. But curiosity won out. "Sure, I'd like that."

---

We walked to a nearby café, the atmosphere relaxed and inviting. As we settled into a booth, the tension between us began to ease. The familiarity of our shared past started to bridge the gap of years apart.

"So," Akira began, leaning back in his seat. "Tell me about your life. What have you been up to?"

I laughed softly, thinking about how to condense the past few years into a few sentences. "Well, I'm studying business and you too, what a coincidence! I've made some great friends, had some ups and downs, you know, the usual."

Akira nodded, listening intently. "And Aiden? I heard some of the students talking about last night."

My cheeks warmed at the mention of Aiden. "Yeah, last night was... unexpected. Aiden and I have been in an unexplainable relationship, hating each other, breaking nerves and now things have gotten a bit more complicated recently."

"Complicated how?" Akira asked, a hint of concern in his voice.

I shrugged, trying to find the right words. "There are some feelings involved, and then there's Madison. She... she tried to stir up some trouble last night."

Akira's expression darkened slightly. "Madison? That sounds like a story."

"It is," I admitted. "But what about you? What's your story, Akira?"

He took a sip of his coffee, his eyes thoughtful. "After I moved back to Japan, life was different. I focused on my studies, got into Tokyo University. But I've always felt like something was missing, like I left a part of myself behind."

I looked at him, understanding his feelings more than he probably realized. "I felt the same way. When you left, it was like losing a piece of myself."

Our conversation flowed more easily after that, the barriers slowly coming down as we shared stories of our lives apart. It felt like we were piecing together a puzzle, each new detail bringing us closer to the friendship we once had.

---

As the afternoon wore on, the café grew busier, the hum of conversations creating a comforting background noise. Akira and I fell into a companionable silence, each lost in our thoughts.

"So," Akira said eventually, breaking the silence. "What happens now?"

I looked at him, considering the question. "I don't know. But I'm glad you're here, Akira. It's good to see you again."

He smiled, and for the first time since we had reunited, it felt like the years between us melted away. "It's good to see you too, Amelia."

As we left the café, I felt a sense of hope and anticipation. The mystery of our past had begun to unravel, but there were still many questions left unanswered. I knew that whatever the future held, it would be shaped by the connection we shared—a bond that had withstood the test of time and distance, waiting to be rediscovered.

The warm afternoon sun bathed the university campus in golden light as Akira and I strolled down the pathway, lost in an animated conversation about an upcoming art exhibit. It felt surreal to reconnect with Akira after so many years apart, our laughter ringing out freely as if no time had passed.

As we approached the student union building, I couldn't help but notice Aiden standing near the entrance. His usually relaxed demeanor was replaced by a subtle tension, his gaze fixed on Akira and me. My heart sank with a pang of guilt, knowing how our closeness must be affecting him.

"Hey, Aiden!" I called out, hoping to break through the awkwardness that settled between us.

Aiden turned towards us, his smile strained. "Hey," he replied, his voice tinged with restraint.

Akira greeted him warmly, trying to ease the tension. "How's it going, man?" he asked, his eyes meeting Aiden's with genuine interest.

Aiden nodded curtly. "Perfect," he replied shortly, his eyes flickering between us.

The air around us grew heavy with unspoken emotions. I felt torn, caught between the familiarity and ease of Akira's presence and the complicated feelings Aiden's jealousy stirred within me.

"We were just heading to grab some books," I interjected quickly, sensing the need to diffuse the tension. "Akira wanted to check out the library."

Akira nodded in agreement, his smile warm but tinged with understanding. "Yeah, I heard it's supposed to be amazing," he added, giving me a knowing look.

Aiden's jaw tightened slightly, his gaze narrowing. "Right," he muttered, his tone clipped.

The silence that followed was thick with unspoken words. I glanced between them, acutely aware of the dynamics at play. Aiden's emotions were laid bare in the tension that lingered between us, his jealousy palpable yet unvoiced.

"Well, we should get going," I said softly, breaking the uncomfortable silence. "I'll catch up with you later, Aiden."

Aiden nodded stiffly, his gaze lingering on Akira for a moment longer before he turned and walked away without another word. I watched him leave, my heart heavy with conflicting emotions. One minute he's all sweet and funny while the other he's back in his dark aura. I will never understand how his mind operates.

In the late afternoon, the university football field was bathed in warm, golden sunlight, casting long shadows as the teams prepared for their friendly match. Aiden stood confidently among his teammates, known for his excellence on the pitch. His movements were precise and calculated, moving through defenders with skillful passes and strategic plays that drove his team forward.

On the other side, Akira showcased his athleticism and focus, drawing on his background in football from Japan and his previous university experience. He contributed effectively with well-timed passes and strategic positioning, earning respect from his teammates.

As the game unfolded, excitement and anticipation filled the air. Spectators cheered loudly, urging their teams on with each near miss and successful play. The atmosphere was charged with the competitive spirit of the match.

As the football match unfolded under the warm afternoon sun, I found myself caught up in the excitement on the sidelines. My cheers for Akira rang out loud and clear, blending with the enthusiastic shouts and applause from the other spectators.

"Come on, Akira! You've got this!" I exclaimed, clapping my hands together with fervor. The joy of watching him play, coupled with the cheers of the crowd, filled me with a sense of excitement.

In the middle of the game, Akira, focused and determined, momentarily paused. His gaze scanned the sidelines until it settled on me, waving and cheering him on. A warm smile spread across his face, and I could see the gratitude and encouragement reflected in his eyes.

Our eyes met, and in that micro connection, I felt a rush of pride for my friend. It was a simple yet profound moment, where my cheers became more than just words—they were a tangible display of support and belief in his abilities.

"Keep pushing Akira!" I called out, my voice carrying over the field as I continued to cheer him on. In that instant, the competitive energy of the game, our shared bond and friendship shone brightly, adding a personal touch to the afternoon's excitement.

In a crucial moment, Aiden took control of the ball near midfield. With an unmatchable speed, he shot the football. The ball flew through the air with force, heading straight towards Akira, who was positioned near the penalty box.

The ball struck Akira's head with a loud impact, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground. Silence fell over the field as players and spectators alike watched in concern.

My heart may stop beating.

One moment I'm cheering for Akira and the next he's lying on the floor.

I look at Aiden with panic in my veins and he's already looking at me. He didn't move from his place. He should have run to Akira as he was hurt because of him. But he was standing there with some seriousness in his eyes.

I hope it's not what I think it is.

I hope he didn't do it on purpose.
