[Head priestâs apprentice pov]
Today it was time to commence a future-telling, so it was my responsibility to set things just right for the ritual.
The prisoner was deeply tranquilized. I carefully cut its hair for later use, I took my finest obsidian shard and carefully sliced the skin around the eyes. The prisoner was too deep in the spell to notice but a thing, I slowly and carefully unfolded the skin under the eyebrow and above the jaw like it was a warm, thin and fragile blanket, exposing a very red thing with white eyes.
I tied the locks of hair around their arms, a few tears shed from the prisoner, excellent. I wiped his tears and smeared them on the skinless red. âThe future holds a lot of grieving, thatâs why itâs such a painful ritual.â I hushed to the prisoner who could only cry out more. It was a shame the rest of the body had no purpose for the ritual. After the body was finely prepared, it was time to put a nice strong waft of smells in the air for the Chief Priest.

âIt is all ready in place, Slangâ I said to the Chief priest, bowing as he entered and calling him by the name of the angel he took the form of. the Chief priest walked to the entranceâs carpet and changed himself to the right clothes and colors then he went to one of the incenses that were saturating the room and took a deep long inhale, to really give himself in. he then took specific red and green paint and created marks on his arms and body and then stumbled forward to the room with the prisoner foretell the future. I guarded the entrance to the temple so that no one would intrude on the ritual. Later he returned from the room, his hands covered in the color red.
âHow was the ritual Mister Saul?â I asked, being the only person in the entire empire with the right to call the head priest by his first name.
â...â He didnât want to answer.
âAre there any bad news Saul?â I naively asked, but he didn't utter a word, instead throwing a piece from the flailed skin of the sacrifice and its red side had grey smoke emitting from it endlessly.
I could barely sleep that night.
