Evie was still lied down on her bed, but this time, her back was facing the wall. Her long black hair was a bit wet, sticking gently on her face. Her pyjamas were new, even though it was just a black tee too big for her and a pair of shorts. The female shapeshifter just went back from the shower. One of the very few reasons why she stood up from her bed and left her room. But it still felt like a tremendously tiring trip, a journey filled with hardship and dangers. An adventure where she had to give all of her strength, a test that required everything you got. The bathroom room was across her room.
Everything Evie does felt like a hard task. She had no energy left. She had nothing for her to believe in. She had no reason to start a day. Her heart was broken. Her spirit was broken. She was broken. And all of that because he left. Without a word, without an explanation, without a reason. He did have a reason, but Evie doesn't understand it. He left because Bella was getting married to Edward. But why did it put him on the edge? He told Evie he didn't love Bella. He told Evie he loved her. He told Evie he cared for Bella but not in that way. So why the official announcement of her wedding made him leave? Did he lie to her? Did he still love Bella? But he seemed so happy when they were going on dates and spending time together. He told Evie multiple times he loved her. Did he lie? Was it all an act? Was it all comedy? Did he use her to forget about Bella? No. He couldn't do that, couldn't he? Evie was lost, she didn't know what to think. She wanted to believe, she still believes that he loves her, Evie Clearwater, that he was sincere every time they were together. But a part of her was doubting. A part of her is unsure. A part of her was questioning his true feelings. A part of her was wondering if he did turn the page, the Bella chapter of his life. A part of her was struggling to trust his word. After all, he left because of Bella's wedding. What should Evie think about that? What should she do with this information?
Knock. Knock. Knock.
She heard on the door. The door opened, revealing Seth, her younger brother. He had his usual sunshine smile that could enlighten the day of any person on the planet. It used to enlight Evie's days. Used. Now it has less effect on her. She still loved seeing her brother smile - even though she never shows it - but it doesn't cheer her up like it used to do. Seth's light doesn't reach her anymore.
The youngest of the Clearwater family stepped into the room and sat down next to Evie's bed, near of where her head was lied down.
"Hi, V! Did you eat breakfast yet?" Seth asked. He learned to stop asking about her night, or about how she was doing. She would always look away and tears would threaten to fall. Asking about her night or how she felt is useless. It would just remind her of the pain, about her loss. Because she lost Jacob. She lost a part of her. Besides, it was pretty obvious that she wasn't doing well at all. So what's the point of asking? Courtesy? Politeness? Kindness? Caring? She didn't need that. She needed him to come back. But the more the days pass, the more hope was dying. Seth knew all of that. So he stopped asking, and Evie was grateful.
Evie nodded as an answer to what he asked. She ate a toast and drank a glass of juice. It wasn't much but it was more than two weeks ago. She would either not eat or just drink a glass of water or juice.
"Paul wants to go cliff diving with the pack. Wanna come? Paul want to beat you at the best jump," Seth joyfully asked sparkles in his eyes. His orbs were like little stars. But unlike them, their light was eternal.
"Maybe another time," Evie tiredly answer, as usual. Seth knew she would say this, but he couldn't stop himself to be sad or disappointed. A small silence took place between them. A moment of blankness. But it was quickly broken by Seth who stood up. He then took place in front of his sister, lying on his side on the bed. Evie frowned a bit, wondering what he was doing. He was smiling warmly at her.
"You won't go?" She asked.
"Nope. I don't want them to be always laughing at me," Seth pouted. "I'd rather stay with my sister. Besides, what's the point of cliff diving if the best cliff diver is not coming?"
Evie slightly smiled at what Seth said. She was grateful to have such a wonderful little brother. He was truly the best. But she still felt guilty to make him stay. She knew that a part of him wanted to go cliff diving. But he couldn't let himself go because he thought that he had to go keep an eye on his sister. She felt guilty to force him to take care of her. She felt guilty that his life was now only revolving around her.
"You know, the Cullens asked about you," Seth said. "Edward came to the treaty line,"
It wasn't surprising Evie at all. She got a bunch of texts from them. Alice, Bella, Edward and even Rosalie. They all were worried, wondering if she got over him. But she didn't. Could she even? Could she get over him? Forget him? Forget the pain he caused?
"I know," Evie sighed. "What did you say to him?"
"I said that you were slowly getting better," Seth said. "You just need time," he smiled then suddenly, his stomach growled. A slight blush coloured his cheeks.
"Are you sure you have eaten this morning?" Evie playfully said.
"Well, not enough," he said as he stood up. "I gonna get some cookies," he chanted as he walked over the door.
"Don't eat everything or else Leah will make you pay," Evie chuckled.
"Yeah, don't worry," Seth laughed and left.
He always succeeded to make her laugh. No matter what. Evie loved Seth for that. He was pure sunshine. But even though he seemed to have kept his positiveness and joy, behind it, Evie could still see sadness and worries for her. Evie felt guilty to make him, and the entire tribe, feel that. That is why she was trying to make effort, to forget him. But it was way harder than she would have expected. He was just always in her mind. 24/7. She couldn't get him out of her head. His shadow was still over her head. How could it go so wrong so suddenly? A bit more than a month ago, she was happily spending time with him. She remembered that afternoon where she stayed at his place. Evie visited him over his garage. As usual, he was fixing a car.
"A new baby?" Evie asked, walking to him.
"Yup," Jacob said, wiping the sweat off his head. "Got it a few days ago."
"I'm sure you'll fix it. You always do," Evid smiled, stopping next to him.
"Thanks, babe," Jacob leaned to kiss Evid but she held a hand, stopping him.
"There's no way I'm kissing you when you are all sweaty. Get a shower first," she told him.
"Yes, chief!" He saluted, making Evie chuckled.
They both went inside the house. Billy was watching the TV as Jacob left to the bathroom. Evie went to sit next to Billy on the sofa.
"Hey, kiddo," the old man greeted.
"Hey, Billy," Evie smiled.
"Thanks to have gotten Jake out of the garage. I was starting to think it became his new room," he joked. Jacob must have been staying a lot in the garage these past few days.
"I never seen him so happy since a long time, you know". Billie then said. Evie turned to him. "Since he shifted, since he knows for the Cullens, since he knows Bella wants to become a vampire, he felt pressure, and felt anxious and stressed. He always took things by heart, too seriously sometimes. But then he imprinted on you, and you two started dating, and he finally started to loosen up and enjoy his teenage life. You have a good influence on him, Evie. You are a good girl and I'm happy my son imprinted on you. So thank you, kiddo."
Evie didn't know what to say. She was moved by Billies' words. She was approved by the father of the man she loved. She was beyond joyful. Everything was perfect at the time. She never thought it would go down so fast.
"I'll go visiting old Ataera". Billie told Evie. "Apparently, Jay had made trouble again," He chuckled before rolling over the front door.
Jay was Quill younger brother. He was a twelve years old little devil. A real trouble maker who loved to cast jokes and pranks on people. Of course, he never tried on Sam, he was too scared of him. Evie helped Billy to go out and then went back inside. She switched off the TV and made her way to Jacob's room. She lied down on his bed, taking out her phone to place a snake game. After a moment, Evie heard the sound of the water stopping and soon after, Jacob went out of the bathroom, dressed in a pair of beige shorts.
"Put on a shirt," Evie said, not looking away from her game. Jacob snorted.
"As if you minded." He said, plopping down next to her.
He kissed her cheek but Evie only giggled, not looking away from her game. Jacob pouted and kissed her again, on the lips this time. Evie giggled again but kissed him back. Jacob took her phone and put it his bedside table as he rolled over to hover her. Evie let him, not caring about the game anymore. She put her hand his face, closing her eyes as they kissed passionately. Their lips moved in sync as she slid her hands on his hot skin from his torso to his abs. Jacob let out a soft moan of pleasure as he deepened the kiss, pressing his body against Evie's. As their tongs danced together, Evie let out a moan as Jacob hugged her waist, sliding his hand on her back.
But the air was needed, so they broke away, panting. Jacob pressed his forehead onto hers, his eyes closed.
"Now that's a kiss." He whispered. Evie smiled as Jacob buried his head in the crook of her neck. Evie ran a hand into his onyx hair. Jacob sighed, pleased. "I love you, Evie. You have no idea how much I love you."
The memory faded in Evie's mind. How could it go so wrong so fast? She remembered that day as if it was yesterday. And yet, she felt like it was years ago. A long, long lost memory of a time before. She wanted to forget the pain. Yet she didn't want to. Because if she forgot it, it meant that she would stop thinking about him, and if she stopped thinking about him, she would stop seeing him. And she didn't want that. Thinking about him allowed her to see his beautiful face. It was a way for her to be with him, to feel his presence.
