Chapter 804:
Anika put out her cigar and met Lucretiaâs gaze, her eyes pleading.
âMom, please let me stay. Iâve never witnessed the effects of the upgraded pills firsthand.â
Anikaâs pouty charm was something Lucretia could never resist. Lucretia always gave in to Anikaâs whims, allowing her to do whatever she wanted without question.
Lucretia did not want Anika involved solely to shield her from potential dangers, but now, with the current plan, all risks had been eliminated.
Lucretia decided to expose her daughter to a different side of their world. She moved to sit beside Anika and nodded.
âAlright, you can stay, but you must promise not to cause any trouble.â
Anika, having anticipated her motherâs agreement, quickly snuggled into Lucretiaâs arms and said, âI knew you were the best.â
Hale observed their interaction with a sneer rather than anger, his laughter making Anika feel uneasy.
Anika tilted her head and asked, âWhat exactly do you mean by that?â
Even facing his own niece, Haleâs gaze remained cold and distant.
âNothing. You and your mother do as you wish. Iâll go check if our âPerfixâ has awakened.â
Anikaâs expression turned grim.
âI thought I made it clear that you are not to interact with the âPerfixâ until Iâve completed my examination!â
Hale sneered.
âAnika, let me make this clear.

First, Iâm your uncle. Second, youâre nothing more than the one supplying me with the drugs. Youâd better show me some respect. Otherwise, even though youâre my niece, Iâd be tempted to lay a hand on you.
Donât you agree, Lucretia?â
Haleâs growing power was nearly surpassing Matteoâs, which made his behavior toward Lucretia and Anika, both of whom had been targeted by Matteo, unpredictable at best.
Anika was taken aback. She never expected Hale to speak to her mother in such a tone.
After all, they were the ones supplying the âBloodthirstiness Pill,â without which Haleâs current plans would never have been possible.
Anika glanced at Lucretia, who simply shook her head, prompting Anika to quickly temper her pride. Lucretia had always maintained that only Hale could assist them in wresting back control from Matteo and reclaiming their position in Uwhorâs underworld.
Subdued, Anika turned to Hale and said, âIâm sorry⦠I was being immature.â
Hale responded, âMake sure you remember that.â Biting her lip, Anika realized the precarious situation she and her mother were in, entirely dependent on Haleâs whims. She reluctantly softened her voice and said, âMay I come with you to see the âPerfixâ? This âPerfixâ was just brought back. Iâm concerned she might be emotionally unstable. Perhaps letting me tag along would be a wise choice.â
As Anika made her request, Hale stopped in his tracks. This plan was essential, and failure was not an option.
He absentmindedly rubbed his immobile pinky finger, memories of Harlee flickering across his mind, a slight smile creeping onto his face.
