Chapter 692:

Clint’s heart swelled with emotion.

As he gazed up, he noticed the subtle signs of age in Lonnie’s face—the wrinkles, the graying hair.

“Dad, we’re all going to be okay,” he assured softly.

Lonnie gave a noncommittal nod, patting Clint’s shoulder before turning to ascend the stairs. Skyla caught Lonnie at the base of the staircase, a playful smirk on her face.

“Feeling a bit nostalgic, are you? Coming to terms with the years catching up to you?”

Lonnie draped his arm around Skyla’s waist, his voice tinged with a mix of jest and sincerity.

“Well, watching Clint today reminded me just how old I’ve gotten.

But having you by my side? It feels like I’m young all over again.”

Skyla’s light slap on his chest was accompanied by a coy chuckle.

“Oh, come on.

Be serious for once.”

Elsewhere, Harlee settled into the passenger seat of Rhys’ car as they made their way back to Remson Manor. She appeared preoccupied, her brow creased with concern, her mind evidently elsewhere.

Rhys caught the hint of her troubled thoughts, yet he chose to remain silent during the drive, merely offering her a comforting smile. Once they were comfortably seated in the living room at Remson Manor, Rhys broke the silence.

“I’ll handle Lindsay’s case.”

Harlee gave a slight nod, her face expressionless.

Rhys continued, his tone earnest.

“Wilton and Belen barely recognized Lindsay when they saw her last.”

“They feel she’s become a stranger, and believe further visits would be futile. They’re putting their hopes in the correctional system to reform Lindsay. They wanted me to convey their apologies to you and your friend.”

A trace of relief seemed to lift Harlee’s spirits.

Gently pushing a stray lock of hair from her face, Rhys added soothingly, “They never hold you responsible. On the contrary, they’re thankful. They appreciate your efforts to give Lindsay a second chance for their sake.”

Harlee’s eyes sparkled with a renewed intensity.

“They really understand everything?”

Rhys tenderly caressed Harlee’s hand, tilting his head with a soft grin.

“I know you’re uneasy, so I’ve already spoken to Wilton and Belen.”

Rhys understood how much family meant to Harlee and how she feared losing her connection with the Morgan household.

Although her concerns were completely justified, she worried that Wilton and Belen might resent her. Or worse, they might start drifting away because of Lindsay.

Harlee rested against his chest with a contented smile. She raised her face slightly and pressed a light kiss to the corner of his lips.

“You really do understand me.” For such a long time, aside from Tonya, Rhys had been the only one who could read Harlee’s thoughts without her saying a word. The realization that this tall, striking man, who knew her so well, was hers filled Harlee with happiness.
