Chapter 362:
Upstairs in the Sanderson residence, Harlee, having spent yet another sleepless night, was rubbing her tired neck as she made her way down the staircase.
As she overheard the servantsâ conversation, she paused mid-step. Rhys? Her thoughts echoed with confusion.
âMr. Green is here again?â
âI just caught a glimpse of him outside, leaning against his car.
Heâs in that limited edition model of his, but honestly, he seems kind of downhearted, almost pitiful to watch.â
âFirst, he calls off the engagement, and now heâs back to propose? Does he view Miss Sanderson as some sort of possession, to be taken up and set aside at his convenience?â
A slight frown creased Harleeâs forehead. She was completely unaware of Rhysâ attempted proposal. She had spent the day at Spragueâs estate, and upon her return, neither Lonnie nor Skyla had breathed a word about it.
The servants, of course, would never dare gossip openly in her presence. With swift steps, Harlee descended the staircase. In the living room, Lonnie and Skyla were lounging with sulky expressions, but they both perked up, looking somewhat taken aback as they noticed Harlee.
Skyla rose, a worried smile playing on her lips.
âHarlee, dear, what are you doing up so early? Didnât you mention youâd sleep in today?â
âItâs alright. I feel quite refreshed,â Harlee replied softly, her voice carrying a soothing tone.

Lonnie and Skyla shared a quick, uncertain glance, clearly hesitant to bring up the Green family matter. Sensing their unease, Harlee let out a light, airy laugh.
âMom, Dad, you donât have to walk on eggshells around me. The Greens calling off the engagement doesnât bother me in the slightest.â
With that, Harlee turned her attention toward the door, her eyes thoughtful.
Harlee said earnestly, âThe Green family has already endured significant financial losses and a ruined reputation. This punishment should be enough. The business ties between the Green and Sanderson families are deeply intertwined. If this deadlock persists, Brenton will only face more pressure.â
Lonnieâs gaze sharpened.
âBrenton is more than capable of handling the pressure. Whatâs the issue with Brenton facing more challenges?â
Aware of her familyâs negative view of Rhys, Harlee took it upon herself to calm them. She realized that Lonnie still resented Rhys for ignoring the long-standing friendship between the Green and Sanderson families, especially by ending the engagement without considering the impact on the Sanderson familyâs reputation.
She decided to try a different tactic instead.
Harlee smiled and said, âHow can you release your frustration by keeping him out?â
Lonnie paused, suddenly understanding her point.
Excluding Rhys merely embarrassed him, but allowing him inside could provide an opportunity to mock him and truly vent their frustrations.
