Chapter 300:
Karina wasnât about to let him escape. With each inch he moved, she carved another piece from his body, her smile twisting into a wicked grin, as though consumed by madness.
Opposite them, Harlee leaned against the sofa, her face unreadable and her eyes cold.
âThatâs enough.â
At her single command, Karina paused and silently stepped back to stand beside Harlee.
Benedict saw a flicker of hope. With his remaining strength, he gasped, âHelp me⦠You can have⦠Whatever you wantâ¦â
But Benedict never heard Harleeâs reply.
Before he could say more, he collapsed, lifeless, his eyes staring vacantly.
In the end, Benedict never figured out whether Karina had bribed Harlee or if they had been working together all along.
âMiss Sanderson.â Karina stood respectfully before Harlee, her head slightly bowed, the twisted smile from earlier gone.
âYouâve got guts. I didnât misjudge you.
But you overstepped. I asked you to handle Benedict, not to take pleasure in torturing him.â
Harleeâs cold, detached voice echoed in the secret room.
Suddenly, the door swung open.
Aldrich shook his head.

âWell, thatâs quite a mess. Need me to clean up first, Harlee?â
Harlee remained silent, her gaze fixed on Karina, waiting for an explanation.
Karina let out a bitter laugh.
âMind if I tell you a story first?â Aldrich folded his arms casually, nudging Benedictâs body into a corner and out of Harleeâs sight before taking a seat nearby.
With Harleeâs silent consent, Karina spoke slowly.
âYou may not believe me, but Benedict is my enemyâ¦
His trafficking and fraud operations destroyed me and my entire family.â
She continued, âWhen I was six, I was kidnapped by traffickers and ended up in a fraud base. I have a strong intuition that lets me see peopleâs true selves. I used that ability to secure my place there, avoiding being sold for organs like the other kids.â
Over time, Karina became numb, losing sight of who she truly was, until the day she met her twin sister. She gave a bitter laugh.
âI thought Iâd finally made it home, but it was all just an illusion. The year I was taken, one of my parents lost their mind, and the other passed away.
And my sister? Ha, sheâs heartless! She saw no future at home, so she went to an orphanage, got adopted by rich parents, and lived a life of luxury without enduring any hardship!â
Karinaâs eyes blazed with intense hatred, as if she wanted to tear someone apart, blood seeping from her clenched fists.
