Chapter 279:
Aldrich said, âFirst, identify the man who has thrown Claelia into a mess and angered Benedict. I need his name or pictures. Second, eliminate Benedict, take over his role, and lead the Shakica family.â
At this, Karinaâs eyes widened instinctively, and she flinched slightly on the bed, her hand clenching the sheets until her knuckles whitened. Who was this man? How could he discuss killing Benedict as though it were an easy task?
At Karinaâs baffled look, Aldrich took off his glasses, unbuttoned two buttons on his shirt, and chuckled.
âDonât worry. Iâm not suggesting you do the killing.â
He gestured first to himself and then to Karina.
âIâll handle the killing, and youâll gain the recognition.â
Karina felt even more frightened. What kind of monster was this man? Everyone in Claeliaâs underworld had aspirations to kill Benedict and seize his position, yet he had maintained his power for decades, even colluding with the government. To assassinate him seemed an impossible accomplishment.
Here Aldrich was, exuding such confidence, as if the task was as simple as taking candy from a child.
She hesitated before asking, âWhy should I trust you?â
âName your condition. I will fulfill it.â
âAnything?â Karinaâs expression was blank, her lowered eyes hiding her thoughts.

Aldrich hopped down from the window sill and replied smoothly, âAbsolutely.â
Without hesitation, Karina stated firmly, âEliminate Benedictâs butler, Conley Richardson.
After the public jadeite bid tomorrow night, Iâll provide the information on the man who disrupted Claelia.â
âBefore the public jadeite bid concludes.â Karina clenched her teeth and said, âDeal!â
Aldrich pulled out his phone and called Harlee.
âYou can shoot now.â
Before Karina could process the situation, she heard the sound of a sniper rifle being loaded from the other end of the line. Shortly after, a relaxed female voice said, âDone. You can return now.â
Aldrich buttoned his shirt and put on his glasses.
His voice was steady yet captivating.
âDonât forget our deal.
Before the public jadeite bid ends tomorrow night, I need that manâs details or pictures.â
With that, Aldrich adjusted his mask and exited the room with a serious demeanor, leaving Karina stunned and bewildered. What did that mean? Was Conley really dead? That was incredible! How did they predict her demands and act so swiftly?
Karina lay back down on the bed, her heart racing. She grasped her chest and decided to trust Aldrich just this once. She rose and opened the door, pretending urgency, and requested the guards to summon Conley.
