Chapter 202:
Liamâs face turned ashen, and he couldnât bring himself to look up. Yet when he glanced at Harleeâs detached expression, frustration burned within him.
He had once suggested, out of kindness, that she take more belongings back to her real family. Now, she had allowed the Sanderson family to humiliate him like this. Though she had never been particularly favored in the Gill family, they had raised her. Without their help, her fate might have been uncertain.
Liam was seething, but in the face of the powerful Sandersons, his anger dissipated into helpless frustration.
Adelina, however, refused to be cowed. She pointed accusingly at the Sandersons and declared, âMr. and Mrs. Sanderson, you are being too harsh! No matter the circumstances, my father raised Harlee. Without the Gill family, itâs debatable whether she would even be alive today.â
Her self-righteous proclamation only made Skylaâs expression turn icier.
âHad the Gills not disrupted our lives, Harlee would never have been separated from the Sanderson family. She would have had a far happier upbringing with us!â
Turning to Harlee, Liamâs eyes filled with pain and frustration.
Harlee had always been distant, never attempting to please him or Averie, which often resulted in Averie treating her harshly. Still, Liam had ensured she was fed, clothed, and educated. Wasnât that enough to qualify him as a good father?
âWhy canât you see things from our perspective?â Liam asked, his voice tinged with bitterness.
âYouâve never warmed up to us or brought us any joy.
Endless adventures await on gαâηÏνððsâ¤com
All we ever got from you was indifference. Yet, we cared for you. When we learned you werenât our biological child, I even suggested you take more belongings with you, but you declined.
How can you accuse us of mistreatment now?â
Skylaâs temper flared at Liamâs twisted reasoning. She lost all restraint.
âShe refused? What exactly did you allow her to take? Right after discovering she wasnât your biological daughter, you threw her out. What was she supposed to take?
âMoreover, are children supposed to exist just to please their parents? Liam, you really need to get your head checked!â
âPlease, just stop embarrassing yourself! What an utter fool!â Skyla yelled, her frustration evident.
She then turned to Kane, âKane, next time you let rubbish like this through, youâre answering to me!â
Adelina, seething with anger over the Sandersonsâ disregard, shouted impulsively, âMrs. Sanderson, you may defend her now, but youâll regret it! Harlee is nothing but heartlessâ¦â
Lonnieâs gaze turned cold, and he locked eyes with Liam and Adelina.
âYou have no right to interfere with the Sanderson familyâs affairs! It seems our usual restraint has been misinterpreted as weakness by some.
Do you actually believe the Sanderson family can be so easily provoked? Do you think you can stir up trouble here? Say one more word, and trust me, the Sandersons could easily slash the Gill familyâs fortune in half!â
