Chapter 198:
Brixtonâs cheeks felt so good! The crowd was stunned by this scene. Wasnât Brixton the notorious troublemaker from the Torres family? Yet here he was, being treated like this by âMiss Sandersonâ and responding not with anger, but with submission.
Earlier, when Lonnie and Skyla had gone upstairs, Harlee had taken the opportunity to introduce Tonya as her closest friend. Recognizing Harleeâs closeness with Tonya, they quickly embraced Tonya as their goddaughter.
âSkyla, Harlee said she wanted to watch the fun from upstairs and sent me down first.â Tonya latched onto Skylaâs arm and said sweetly, âYou must teach her a lesson later. Sheâs always so mischievous.â
âYou little rascal,â Skyla responded with a laugh, her smile wide.
âAlright, Iâll have a word with Harlee for you.â
Tonya rested against Skylaâs chest, feeling completely cozy.
The crowd around them began to piece things together.
âSo, sheâs not Miss Sanderson. No wonder. I was puzzled how a girl from the countryside could carry herself with such poise.â
âWhen did the Sanderson family take in a goddaughter?â
âShe has to be from some noble family.
Her demeanor is far from ordinary.â
âThat explains it.â
The murmurs continued.

Liam had encountered Tonya before.
âItâs her?â
Hearing this, Adelinaâs brow furrowed, her confusion apparent as she asked, âDad, what are you talking about? Who is she? Do you know the Sanderson familyâs goddaughter?â
Liam nodded but then shook his head, his face etched with discomfort. Years ago, when Harlee first brought Tonya home, Liam was less than welcoming, dismissively commenting that Harlee was just bringing anyone into their circle.
He had no idea at the time that Tonya would become the Sanderson familyâs goddaughter, a person well beyond his social reach.
Liam deeply regretted his earlier attitude.
Had he been more gracious back then, perhaps now he could have eagerly pursued a connection. Unfortunately, he had let such a valuable opportunity slip away.
Adelina caught the troubled look on Liamâs face, grasping the situation, and struggled to maintain her own composure. She said quickly, âDad, please donât show that expression. Others might think we have something against the Sanderson family.â
Liam nodded, managing to adjust his expression slightly, though he still couldnât hide his unease.
He worried Tonya still remembered their past interaction and possibly had them expelled from the event in anger.
As Liam and Adelina spoke, the center of the conversation in the hall had already shifted several times. Skyla had sent Kane to bring Harlee down.
