Chapter 184:
Among the Sanderson family, she dreaded speaking to Kareem the most, let alone trying to lie to him.
Harlee observed quietly, a faint smirk forming on her lips. This was the key moment in her plan. No matter how hard Etta tried to question her, her efforts couldnât match the impact of just a few sentences from Kareem. So, Harlee purposely made her approach seem awkward, drawing Kareem into the game.
Harlee raised an eyebrow and asked Etta, âNo more excuses now?â
Etta held her swollen face, her eyes blazing with anger, yet she clung to her innocent facade.
âIâm sorry, Harlee. I admit I went into your room, but it was only to make peace with you. When I saw you werenât there, I left.
As for the clothes Kane mentioned seeing in the room, I honestly donât know what happened.â
âOh, really?â Kareem responded with a subdued smile.
âKane, could you check the second floorâs surveillance footage?â
Kareem was bluffing.
As expected, Etta stiffened and then gave a nervous chuckle.
âI might have lingered a bit before I leftâ¦â
Her speech came out in disjointed fragments, and the sharp-eyed members of the Sanderson family easily saw through her.

âEtta, how could you do something like this? Iâm so disappointed in you!â Skylaâs chest tightened, feeling as if her heart had been struck, leaving her struggling to breathe. She was heartbroken that someone she had held dear for so many years could feel such resentment toward her beloved daughter, even going so far as to sabotage the gifts her precious daughter had prepared for the whole family.
âMrs. Sanderson, I didnât! I really didnât!â Etta hastily said, trying to clear herself of any blame.
Harlee gracefully gathered her hair, her movements elegant as she approached Etta.
Her voice was calm as she said, âI forgot to mention, I detest when someone damages my belongings!â
Suddenly, Harlee seized a vase nearby and hurled it toward Ettaâs head.
âAh! No!â Ettaâs scream was abruptly cut short as Callie burst into the room.
Callie fell to her knees before Harlee, begging, âMiss Sanderson, please forgive Etta this once. She wonât dare repeat her actions. There wonât be a next time.â
Harlee paused, her expression chilling further.
Callie continued, âMiss Sanderson, itâs my poor guidance that inspired such reckless ideas in Etta. I even helped her in locating your garments. If you must be angry, direct it at me. I can endure any punishment. Just please, forgive Etta this once.â
Harlee crossed her arms, her laughter tinged with frustration.
âSo you do know what youâve done? I had assumed youâd keep creeping in the shadows.â
Callieâs cheeks reddened with embarrassment. Yet, she lifted her head and said, âI acknowledge that Iâve broken your trust, and Iâm aware that both my daughter and I have committed grave mistakes. Whatever penalty you decide, I will accept it. Just spare Etta this time. Sheâs young and wonât withstand such harsh treatment.â
