Chapter 182:
His resentment toward Harlee deepened.
Fletcher quickly moved toward Fleming and asked, âFleming, why are you even talking to her?â
âHarlee is our sister,â Fleming replied, clapping Fletcher on the shoulder with a serious tone.
âBrenton is right. You really need to feed your brain.
Havenât you noticed youâve only grown taller but not wiser over the years?â
Fleming had actually arrived earlier but was held up at the door fetching his gift.
Fletcher felt aggrieved.
He crouched on the floor, releasing the built-up frustration inside him.
He couldnât fathom why everyone gravitated toward Harlee, whom he saw as cold-hearted. Wasnât Etta closer to them?
Fletcher clung to Ettaâs perspective, convinced that Harlee lacked virtue.
He had never questioned that Etta was actually misleading him.
Kane came rushing over, visibly anxious.
âMiss Sandersonâ¦â Harlee grinned, her eyes twinkling like crescent moons.
The stage was set. Now was the time for Fletcher to see Ettaâs true colors.
âWhat happened?â Harlee asked slowly.

Kane paused briefly before speaking, âThe outfits you prepared for your parents and siblingsâ¦â
Skyla, visibly worried, said, âWhat about the clothes Harlee had designed? Tell me quickly!â She had been eagerly anticipating them for a whole month.
Fleming, looking confused, asked, âWhat outfits?â
Just then, Etta descended the stairs. Upon grasping the situation, her complexion turned pale, and she couldnât manage a smile.
Callie stepped out of the kitchen, and the moment she took in the scene, her vision dimmed, and her mind began to buzz. Werenât Lonnie and Skyla supposed to be away today? This was unexpectedâ¦
Ettaâs mind went blank momentarily, but she quickly composed herself, absentmindedly twirling a strand of her hair.
âOh, everyoneâs home? I just woke up, still feeling a bit groggy and shocked.â
Etta flashed a sweet smile, gripping the banister as she slowly came down.
Harlee approached and slapped Etta outright.
Etta stared at Harlee furiously, but seeing the other Sandersons, she quickly adopted a sorrowful look.
âHarleeâ¦â She placed her left hand over her face, her eyes empty, as if all the life had drained from her.
Etta had assumed the Sanderson family would defend her against Harlee, but no one came to help her, not even Fletcher.
