Chapter 178:

“I understand. Whatever you’re planning, I’ll be there for you.”

Etta’s stern face relaxed a bit upon hearing the words she needed. Though Etta had moved out of the maid’s quarters since Skyla had provided her a separate room, she came back this time specifically to ensure Callie would keep a watchful eye on Harlee for her.

Once inside Callie’s room, Etta quickly secured the door and guided Callie to the most secluded corner.

“Etta said, ‘Mom, I need you to keep an eye on Harlee. I want to know her recent activities and where she’s storing the outfits she’s assembling for the whole Sanderson family.'”

Callie hesitated before responding, “Access to Miss Sanderson’s room is restricted to her mother only.”

Frustration crept across Etta’s face, her anger nearly spilling over.

“Isn’t there a way for you to slip in when she’s gone?”

Callie found herself speechless. The rift between Etta and Harlee had grown so severe that after their public dispute, Kane had banned Callie from the second floor.

Even the other servants gossiped about Callie.

“Etta, believe me, I want to help, but…” Callie tried to explain her difficulty.

“You’re no help at all. Your answer is always no. What good are you? You’ve served the Sanderson family for years, yet you let these servants dictate your actions?” Etta replied bitterly, her eyes blazing with an intense fury.

“Can’t you ever take a stand for yourself?”

Callie reached out to touch Etta’s sleeve in a pitiful gesture, but Etta brushed her hand away sharply.

“I don’t care how you do it, openly or in secret. If you fail to discover where Harlee hides those clothes for the Sanderson family, consider me no longer your daughter.”

Etta marched out, her sleeves whipping around, fueled by her anger. She couldn’t imagine why, despite her own capabilities, her mother remained so ineffective as a servant. Life seemed overwhelmingly unfair to her!

Once outside, Etta retreated to a hidden spot and pulled out her phone to call Liliana.

“Are you really going to let this slide?”

At that moment, Liliana, having just been revived by the doctors from her suicide attempts, lay lifeless on the hospital bed.

“What do you want?” Her voice was frail.

“Don’t you want to see Harlee’s reputation ruined?” Etta pressed on.

Liliana paused and then let out a sigh.

“We can’t defeat her. No matter what we try, it’s useless.”

After Harlee had effortlessly avoided the trap she had set, Liliana abandoned her quest for vengeance, realizing that persisting would only bring her more misfortune.

Yet, Etta was determined not to lose Liliana as an ally. She suppressed her frustration and tried to convince her.

“Harlee’s power comes solely from the Sanderson family. Without their support, she is powerless! Liliana, you’ve lost everything—your health, your good name, and even your family.
