Chapter 1718:
âGot it,â the four muttered, too drained to argue. As expected, money earned through Harlee was destined to return to Harlee. Saving was simply not an option!
Then, Harleeâs sharp eyes landed on Cillian.
âCome with me, Cillian.â
Without waiting for a response, she turned on her heel and strode toward a side room connected to the living area.
Cillian froze for a moment but soon trailed after her, his head hanging low in defeat, looking thoroughly dejected.
Harlee shut the door and said, âDidnât I just tell you a few days ago not to push yourself so hard? Have you already forgotten?â
Cillianâs head jerked up in surprise before he quickly averted his gaze, embarrassment washing over his face.
âHarlee, I⦠Iâm sorry. I overestimated myself.â
âYou donât need to apologize to me,â Harlee cut him off, her voice cold and resolute.
âCillian, I donât know what youâve been through, nor do I plan to ask. But hereâs the thingâyou have to be your true self in the Twilight. Do you understand?â
She had tried reasoning with him before, hoping he would let go of his burdens. But now it seemed she had no choice but to force him.
âHarlee,â Cillianâs voice faltered, growing softer until it trailed off completely. But after a brief pause, he lifted his head, determination hardening his features.
âI understand, Harlee. Iâll take a step back and tackle the tasks you give me with a clearer, more relaxed mindset. I wonât let my overthinking slow down the missionâs progress.â
âGood.â
Harleeâs tone remained firm. She gave him one last, cool glance before opening the door and stepping out, only to bump into Robbie in the hallway.
âOh!â Robbie slapped his forehead and said, âHarlee, I almost forgot. Lexus sent an invitation. Heâs hosting one of those exclusive Uwhor elite banquets and said he has something important to announce. He insisted you make time to attend.â
Harlee couldnât help but frown when she heard that. Lexus knew full well that she despised banquets. So, why was he so adamant that she make time for this one? What was he planning to announce?
âHarlee?â Robbie called out, his brows furrowing when she didnât respond.
Assuming she hadnât heard him, Robbie added, âBy now, every elite in Uwhor should have received an invitation. Errol and Nola will definitely be there. Do we need to prepare in advance?â
Harlee didnât answer the question. Instead, she simply said, âGot it,â before heading upstairs.
Robbie scratched the back of his head, a puzzled look settling on his face. As he glanced up, his eyes met Cillianâs unreadable gaze.
âHey, youâ¦â
Before Robbie could finish, Cillian turned on his heel and strode out of the living room without so much as a word, leaving Robbie even more bewildered. Robbie stood there, looking aggrieved and pitiful. Wait⦠What the hell was going on? Why was everyone ignoring him?
As Harlee ascended the stairs, Rhys emerged from the study. He stopped in front of her, his sharp yet gentle gaze settling on her face.
âYou are not planning to attend the banquet, are you?â
âNo,â she replied, shaking her head.
âIâm just wondering why Lexus is hosting a banquet now and why he insisted I attend.â
Worried that Harlee might decline, Lexus had called her the moment he sent the invitation. At the time, she and Rhys were taking Felix to Brixtonâs apartment, so Rhys had already heard about it.
âIf I had to take a wild guess, I would say it has something to do with Gilmore,â Rhys said, slipping an arm around her slender waist as they strolled toward the study.
