Chapter 164:
Harlee took a moment, considering her words carefully before continuing, âI think I saw Brentonâs ex-girlfriendâ¦â
Skyla immediately reacted, recalling that Harlee had visited the Grace Lounge earlier. She clasped Harleeâs hand with excitement.
âHarlee, are you saying that the woman Brenton was with today is his ex-girlfriend?â
Harlee hesitated briefly before shaking her head.
For some reason, she felt confirming it would ruin Brentonâs chance of rekindling the flame with his ex.
With a slight smile, she explained, âIâm not certain, but it seems like he might be settling down soon.â
Lonnieâs eyes narrowed, and his eyebrows drew together in confusion.
âWhat are you both talking about? What ex-girlfriend? Has Brenton ever had a girlfriend?â
Skyla glanced at Lonnie.
âDonât mind your dad.
Heâs always clueless.â
Harlee paused momentarily before chuckling.
Her parents really had a great way of getting along.
Seeing Harlee so amused, Lonnie grinned widely.
Concerned that family meddling might complicate matters, Harlee said, âMom, please hold off on setting up any blind dates for Brenton. We donât want his future wife getting the wrong idea.â

Skyla nodded in understanding.
âYouâre right. Iâll call my friends later and ask them to pause their efforts for now.â
âLetâs eat. No more talk about that,â Lonnie said, serving a piece of tender fish onto Harleeâs plate and placing a piece of lobster onto Skylaâs.
Though he adored his daughter, he always remembered to care for his wife.
Watching her parents interact so affectionately, Harlee felt even more motivated to lure Matteo out. If he could connect Quick Cameo and Janessa Studio to the same person, he surely could uncover her relations with the Sanderson family. She was determined to keep her family safe from any threats!
The following day arrived.
Half an hour earlier, Harlee had just arrived at National Aerospace Base when a representative from the director summoned her to the office.
By the time Harlee got there, Willis Bates, the director, had finished delegating tasks and even had time to brew a pot of flavored coffee.
Although Willis usually preferred black coffee, he made an exception because of Harleeâs fondness for flavored varieties. To ensure a favorable response from Harlee, Willis always accommodated her tastes.
Upon Harleeâs entrance, Willisâ face brightened, and he eagerly welcomed her.
âYouâve arrived! Please, take a seat,â Willis said to Harlee.
âMr. Bates,â Harlee greeted him with a nod and casually picked a spot on the sofa. She quickly scanned the room and understood Willisâs motive upon noticing the coffee.
