Chapter 1638:
Celine said between sobs, âWell, I saw Thiago today. He didnât tell me he has returned, and he even took a woman to a fancy restaurant for dinner.â
Nolaâs expression remained unchanged, but her disgust for Celine grew slightly. Still, she maintained her caring facade and gently patted Celineâs back.
The fleeting disgust that Nola felt toward Celine was revealing. If Celine werenât the cherished adopted daughter of the Duke of Mylo, Nola would never have associated with someone she considered so beneath her.
âHow could that be? Calm down. Just tell me everything slowly, and Iâll help you figure it out.â
Nolaâs tone was flat, devoid of warmth. If the woman Celine was fretting over werenât likely Harlee, Nola would scarcely have bothered to feign interest.
Tears flowed down Celineâs cheeks more intensely as she looked at Nola, who donned a mock concerned face.
âThiago is really too much. He actually told me to get lost and claimed he and I werenât that close. You wouldnât believe how tender he was with that woman. Iâve never seen him act like that before!â Now, Nola was 80% sure the woman in question was Harlee.
Nola knew Harleeâs husband had already arrived in Uwhor. Surely, if it were merely a casual dinner, Harlee would have dined with her husband instead of with Thiago. Could their solitary appearance in the restaurant signify a new plan? Nola kept up her charade, her tone growing even more anxious.
âA woman? What woman? Could you describe her?â
Although Nola was almost certain the woman was Harlee, she needed to confirm it.

Moved by Nolaâs apparent concern and anxiety, Celine felt even more attached to her.
Celine bit her lip, silently vowing that as Nolaâs closest friend, she would persuade her father to support Nolaâs bid to become the acting head of the Happer family.
Celine described Harleeâs appearance and said with bitterness, âSo, what if sheâs pretty? Thiago and I are meant to be!â
Once confirming it was indeed Harlee, Nolaâs gaze sharpened as she plotted to leverage the Cavendish familyâs influence against Harlee.
Nola softened her gaze at Celine, her voice resolute.
âCeline, donât stress. Iâll handle that woman. Thiago can only be with you. Just make sure you look your best and leave a lasting impression on him. Donât let that woman come between you,â she advised with a fake smile.
âThank you, Nola. I knew I could count on you!â Celine exclaimed, opening her arms and embracing Nola tightly.
âHoweverâ¦â
Nola frowned, seemingly troubled.
Celine tilted her head.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âCeline, as you know, Iâve been vying with Davenport for the position of acting head of the Happer family, and right now, Iâm short on manpower. I might not be able to confront that woman immediately.â
As Nola spoke, her expression grew sorrowful, as if she had been deeply wronged.
âI donât understand it. Iâm clearly more capable than Davenport, yet my grandfather prefers him.â
Celine looked at Nola, her expression determined.
âNola, donât fret. You can use my resources as needed. And about the position of acting head⦠Iâll speak with my dad. He has influence, and surely, your grandfather will consider his opinion!â Pride tinged Celineâs voice as she spoke the last sentence. Her father was an earl within the Cavendish family, and even someone as esteemed as Errol would need to respect him.
With this thought, Celine turned to Nola and declared confidently, âNola, the leadership of the Happer family must be yours!â
Celine naively assumed securing such a position for Nola would undoubtedly elevate her own status. Perhaps her father would reward her with additional subordinates, enabling her to outmaneuver her brother and secure Thiago for herself.
