Chapter 1630:
âHarlee Sanderson!â Nolaâs expression was livid as she struggled to contain her anger. She stood up abruptly and commanded her bodyguards sharply, âGet out!â
The men in black quickly obeyed, ushering the customers and staff out of the cafe.
The two women faced each other with cold stares, their eyes locked in a fierce duel as if they were engaged in an intense battle.
Nolaâs expression grew darker, a discernible intent to kill emanating from her gaze.
âHarlee, I wonât let the matter with Davenport slide. You plan to use him to undermine me, but I wonât allow it. I want more than the headship of the Happer family. I want to use it to pursue you, to see you brought to your knees begging for mercy!â Her voice escalated with each word.
âIâm not deaf. Thereâs no need to shout.â
Harleeâs eyes remained strikingly unemotional.
Nolaâs lips twisted into a faint smile as she gracefully wiped the coffee from her face, her anger subsiding slightly. It was evident that Harlee had made up her mind to target her. After years of ignoring her, Harlee finally recognized her as a serious contender.
Gazing at Harlee, Nola said softly, âEver wonder why I brought Tania close to you using the so-called notion of Tonyaâs soul migrating to another body? And about those past events, Harlee, isnât that why you havenât acted against me yet?â
Those past events fueled Nolaâs boldness, serving as the cause of her hatred toward Harlee.
Back then, Nola had always felt out of place in the friendship between her, Harlee, and Tonya. Now, a decade later, it seemed Harlee didnât even understand the root of Nolaâs animosity. Nola had to resort to using Tonya to catch Harleeâs attention. Nola was filled with bitterness. What an irony. And to think Harlee once called her a friend.

A cold light flickered in Harleeâs eyes at the mention of Tonya. She fixed her gaze sharply on Nola, her voice indifferent.
âSo?â
Nola arched an eyebrow, her elegant demeanor masking a malicious intent.
âMaybe we could negotiate a deal.â
Harlee looked up slowly, a flash of hostility in her eyes, followed by a look of indifference and laziness.
âNot interested.â
Harlee then emotionlessly took out her phone. Pausing briefly as she saw the caller ID, she pressed the answer button.
The voice on the other end rang out.
âThe follow-up with the Green Group is arranged. Iâll be back tomorrow. Are you still at the villa, or are you discussing work with Stefan?â
Harlee responded nonchalantly, âI bumped into Nola. She proposed a deal. I turned her down.â
Nolaâs pupils narrowed suddenly, her expression twisting into one of fury. In Harleeâs presence, she felt like a moron, always throwing a tantrum, powerless against Harlee.
Like now, Harlee stood nonchalantly taking the call, her voice dripping with disdain for Nola, triggering Nolaâs impulse to react explosivelyâfar from her usual composed self.
Nola clenched her fist, fighting to regain her composure. She had come with a clear purpose today and refused to let Harlee manipulate her emotions. Rhysâ voice deepened slightly on the phone, tinged with concern.
âWhat does she want?â His tone carried a sense of urgency.
âProbably believes she has no chance of stepping in as the temporary head of the Happer family and wants me to stop supporting Davenport,â Harlee responded casually.
Instantly, Nolaâs fury boiled over. She lifted her gun, pointing it directly at Harleeâs forehead, her voice strained as she said, âHarlee, do you really think Iâm scared of you?â
