Chapter 145:
Quickly throwing on a jacket, Harlee opened the door and asked, âIs it that same mother and daughter pair from before, or someone new?â
Kane, the ever-dutiful butler, stood straight and informed her, âMrs.
Evita Juarez and her son are the ones visiting. They were looking for Mrs. Skyla Sanderson, but upon learning sheâs still traveling, they asked to speak with you.â
âHidden agendas,â Harlee muttered under her breath with a sneer.
Kane, overhearing her comment, kept his gaze low, wisely choosing not to engage.
The Juarez family had been anxiously waiting for days for Skylaâs return in vain.
Elvin, convinced Skyla was deliberately avoiding them, assisted Evita, a woman who struggled to walk, to the Sanderson household to confront Harlee and Skyla directly.
Elvin and the others hadnât forgotten the incident where Harlee had slapped Valentina and Liliana twice.
As Harlee descended the stairs, she noticed eight Juarez family members clustered in the living room.
Her eyebrows knitted together slightly. It seemed they were here to stir up trouble. What could they possibly blame her for this time?
When Evita and Elvin behaved as if the Sanderson family was under their control, and Valentina and Liliana stood by with smug looks on their faces, Harlee quickly grasped the situation. So, this was about them wanting justice for Valentina and Liliana getting slapped.
How amusing.
Valentina and Liliana had practically begged for those slaps, and now, after all this time, they were back to accuse her. What a shameful move!

Elvinâs expression was stern, barely containing his fury.
âYou knew elders were waiting here, yet you took your time coming downstairs? Do you think youâre above us?â
Harleeâs expression remained emotionless.
âAnd you are?â
Elvin scoffed.
âIâm your uncle. This is your grandmother, and there are your aunt and cousin.â
With a cold sneer, Harlee replied, âHad you not introduced yourselves, I might have mistaken you for avengers come to settle a score.â
His fierce look was as though she had massacred his whole family.
âYouââ Elvin seethed.
âStop talking nonsense! Youâre such a country bumpkin, hard to be around.â He even pulled out a wet wipe to clean his hands, as if he had been contaminated.
Harlee approached Elvin with a dismissive look.
âOh? Does the term âcountryâ offend you? Itâs a favorite insult of yours.â
Liliana stepped in, attempting to pacify Elvin, who seemed ready to explode.
âDad, let it go. She probably just wasnât raised right, which is why sheâs so rude.
Considering all she has been through, maybe you should be more forgiving as an elder.â
Lilianaâs defense sounded like support for Harlee, but her words subtly disparaged Harleeâs upbringing. Lilianaâs restraint was not a genuine concern but fear.
