Chapter 144:
Meanwhile, news of the Diaz familyâs capture reached Harlee, prompting her to finally reach out to Brice after a silence of nearly two weeks.
Caught off guard while in a meeting, Brice instructed his assistant to hold the proceedings.
He then stepped out onto the balcony, his finger pressing the call button with a mixture of anticipation and dread.
No sooner had he answered than Harleeâs voice came through, urgent and direct.
âHas Matteo stirred up any trouble lately?â
Brice was well aware of what Harlee was hinting at. Over the past few days, he had been vigilant, fearful of any unexpected incidents and even more so of a breach into the studioâs confidential matters. Yet, the days had slipped by without incident, utterly uneventful.
Despite the quiet, Brice held no illusions about Matteo. Matteo was known for his relentless nature, and patience was hardly his virtue. It was unusual for him to lay low for such an extended period.
But indeed, Matteo had done nothing.
Clamping down on his frustration, Brice said frankly, âNo.
Ever since you had me send that email to Matteo informing him that Quick Cameo wasnât interested, itâs as though heâs completely dropped the matter. Thereâs been no response.â
âReally? Nothing at all?â Harleeâs astonishment was palpable.
âHow can that be?â Having dealt with Matteo personally on two occasions, she knew him as a man who pursued his objectives relentlessly. She had deceived him out of five million and then rebuffed his collaboration, using different aliases no less. It was bizarre for him to show no retaliation.
Briceâs face darkened with concern.

âWhen things go this far beyond the ordinary, thereâs usually an underlying reason. We need to remain alert.â
Harleeâs voice came through the line, calm but authoritative.
âAgreed.
And take extra precautions.
For now, letâs put everything on hold except for those three dress orders for Mrs. Torres.â
Brice hesitated, his unease lingering.
âAnd what about Matteo⦠Should we just wait?â
With a slight nod, Harlee responded, âYes, donât worry about that front. Iâve got the Shadow Moon Society keeping tabs on him.â
âUnderstood.â
âStay safe, wrap up whatâs pending at the studio, and then get back here,â she instructed firmly.
âAlright. Iâll head back and be there in no time,â Brice replied without hesitation before hanging up.
Just as Harlee placed her phone down, a surprising visitor made their presence known.
A knock echoed through the room.
From the other side of the door, Kaneâs voice carried a hint of caution.
âMiss Sanderson, a member of the Juarez family is here to see you.â
The Juarez family? Why on earth would they be here? Harleeâs brow furrowed as she recalled their last disagreeable meeting.
