Chapter 1425:
Even though Harlee felt disgusted, she kept up her act in this charade.
Leaving the small house behind, the group made their way to the southwestern graveyard. They walked into an area alive with birdsong and floral scents, resembling a slice of paradise.
A few steps later, Harlee glanced at Lucius and noticed his scrutinizing look, suggesting he might be scheming.
At that moment, Rhys subtly nudged Harlee with his elbow. He had observed it too. Lucius was definitely onto something!
Harlee watched Luciusâ face closely, her eyes darting slightly, and then she leaned in and whispered, âAfter Nicola passed, my father crafted this sanctuary for her because she cherished nature.â
Lucius looked at Harlee, his voice dropping to a low murmur.
âAt least he knew how to do one thing right.â
Harlee gazed at Lucius. Wasnât he suspicious about this? Then what else might he be doubting? Suddenly, she was lost in thought. It would be disastrous if Lucius grew suspicious of them at such a critical moment.
âI only requested your company to the grave, not for constant chatter! And stop looking at me that way.â
Lucius moved closer and spoke through clenched teeth, his voice so low it was meant only for her ears.
âAre you referring to my thoughts about whether youâll give me the antidote later? I need to look after my ownâ¦â
âInterests. Right now, my trust in you doesnât even exist,â Harlee responded calmly, her demeanor unshaken.

âDonât fret. I cherished Nicola, and I would never allow her lineage to simply vanish,â Lucius sneered.
âMoreover, youâve got no option but to trust me!â
âIâm not so naive. Youâve poisoned me before. Whatâs one more attempt on my life?â Harlee retorted as they walked.
âWhen we reach the grave, you must disclose the antidoteâs location and allow my team to verify its legitimacy!â Luciusâ expression turned icy.
âDonât worry, theyâll just verify the antidote. I wonât mention your poisoning me,â Harlee assured him calmly.
âAfter all, once you complete your objectives and leave the island, how else would I obtain the antidote? I need to be cautious!â
At this, Luciusâ tone grew even colder.
âWhat if I refuse?â
âThen our agreement is off. I wonât get the antidote, and youâll suffer a painful death. Donât even dream of meeting Nicola in the afterlife!â Harleeâs tone was frostier than ever.
âYou hold a significant position now, and ordinary folks canât touch you. Unfortunately for you, I am far from ordinary, and neither is Rhys,â she said, her voice softening.
âThus, you really have no option but to comply.â
Lucius, standing beside her, listened to her words as his gaze grew more intense.
âYouâre so cunning. Why should I trust you?â
âBecause I need that antidote!â Harlee appeared completely relaxed, as if she truly had no backup plan.
âOtherwise, you might want to test whether your crew is quicker or if my team here on the island is stronger.â
Harlee had a firm grip on his mindset. He didnât want to die, at least not yet. He aimed to achieve more with the Happer family first.
Lucius regarded her with a mix of respect and admiration.
âYou remind me so much of Nicola! Iâll agree to your terms, but let me pay my respects to Nicola first. I donât want her to be aware of any of this mess.â
âDeal!â Harleeâs face displayed an apparent genuine eagerness to cooperate.
