Chapter 141:

Despite his furious resistance, Shipley was no match for their training and strength.

“Oh, I forgot to mention,” the prosecutor said, his tone cutting, “your father was detained yesterday. The charges will be made public by the authorities soon.”

“That’s impossible!” Shipley shouted, his voice cracking with panic.

But within minutes, his resistance faltered.

He slumped against the bed, his body limp like a rag doll. The struggle ended abruptly when his wrist snapped under the strain, causing him to pass out from the searing pain.

The officers, prioritizing his health, immediately summoned a doctor to tend to his injuries.

As Shipley regained consciousness and received medical attention, he frantically attempted to call Luisa.

Her line was engaged, frustrating him further.

His anxiety deepened as he tried reaching out to Maurice’s usual allies, only to meet silence or avoidance.

For the first time, Shipley realized he was truly cornered. There was no escape this time.

Maurice had never been one to betray his friends, even in the worst of circumstances, and Luisa wasn’t someone easily dragged into the chaos.

Unbeknownst to Shipley, the fallout from the Tartarus Club fiasco prompted Callum to dig deeper into the Diaz family’s affairs. With insights from Kareem, all of Maurice’s connections, including key government figures, were investigated.

As a result, Luisa found herself detained at a police station as well, caught by incriminating evidence that Ritchie had handed over.

Just as Shipley was wondering who he could turn to, his assistant called.

“Mr. Diaz, you must flee.

Disappear completely, and never return. Your father was arrested on charges of bribery and embezzlement, not to mention his role in the harm done to a young girl. Your mother was also detained the moment she arrived. Mr. Diaz, escape now, or it will be too late.”

Shipley’s heart raced, desperate for more information, but the call abruptly ended.

His gaze shifted to the four individuals stationed outside his hospital room.

Clenching his teeth, he considered escaping through the window.

But before he could make a move, they barged in and seized him.

It was only in the interrogation room that Shipley fully grasped the magnitude of his family’s downfall. Tears of regret streamed down his face. If only he could turn back time, he would never have crossed Harlee.

“Did you hear? The Diaz family’s assets have been seized, and the chief of police has been ousted and is now under investigation. It looks like four officials and several businesses are implicated.”

“I heard as well.

A billion! That’s beyond what I could earn in multiple lifetimes, and they emptied it all just like that.”

“Can you believe it? The Diaz family turned out to be real villains!”

“What have you found?”
