Chapter 1385:
As she listened, Harlee took several steps toward him.
âCoulson, have you ever considered that from the start, you were merely a pawn in someone elseâs game?â
Coulson wasnât as useless as he thought. His colleagues and supervisors at the National Aerospace Agency didnât actually despise him as much as he believed. Under Nolaâs manipulation, he had slowly sunk into depression, eventually starting to deny his own worth.
Coulsonâs smile stiffened as he processed her words.
âWhat do you mean?â
For him, the years since his tenure at the National Aerospace Agency had been filled with profound darkness. Given another chance, he would choose not to work there at all.
Even at the cost of his life, Coulson believed that if he could have avoided disappointing his grandfatherâthe person who loved him more than anyone elseâhis sacrifices would have been worth it.
Harlee looked at him and said, âFrom the moment you joined the National Aerospace Agency, you became a pawn in Nolaâs game.â
âWhat do you mean?â Coulson asked, his face clouded with confusion. Seeing his bewilderment, Harlee couldnât help but sigh. She pulled out her phone, displaying the information Robbie had compiled.
âYouâve been manipulated.â
Coulson stared blankly at the information on her phone. Gradually, fury began to build in his eyes, only to fade into a profound emptiness, draining the life from his gaze. There had been no ridicule from his colleagues or leaders. He wasnât the useless fool he feared he had become. There was no story of the âgolden childâ who fell and was completely broken. There was only deceit. Nola had tricked him with false illusions.

The mockery and shame Coulson thought heâd endured over the years were nothing but fabrications, orchestrated by Nola through hallucinogens. He had remained on his original pathâthe âgolden childâ in the eyes of others. He had thrived during his internship at the National Aerospace Agency, secured an early promotion, and even led an experiment.
As Coulson processed Nolaâs manipulations, his mind spiraled in chaos. Before he could grasp the fleeting fragments of the truth heâd just pieced together, his mind went blank. He collapsed, like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
Coulson hit the floor hard, bleeding from several injuries. His face was covered in blood, and the sight was horrifying.
Harleeâs eyes widened in shock, fixating on his trembling hands.
âShit! Nola administered ten times the usual dose!â
With a bloodied smile, Coulson looked up at Harlee, his face showing a look of relief.
âHarlee, hallucinogens or not, I never intended to harm you. Please, donât think less of me, okay?â
With those words, he closed his eyes, resigned and without regret. His heart knew he hadnât truly turned evil. That was enough.
Franco, who had been standing by at the edge of the rooftop, dashed over when he heard the commotion.
âHarlee, are you alright?â Harlee remained motionless, her gaze vacant.
âIs there any chance he can be saved?â she asked, her voice trembling.
Franco knelt down to assess Coulsonâs breathing, his face growing serious.
âItâs possible, but the odds are slim.â
Harleeâs lips quivered as she swiftly knelt beside him, administering basic first aid to Coulson.
âI wonât give up, even if thereâs just a sliver of hope!â she said, her voice filled with determination.
âGet in touch with Goodwin right away and have him prepare for surgery. After the surgery, send Coulson straight to Alex!â Harlee knew that if Coulson stayed here, Nola would stop at nothing to destroy him.
