Chapter 131:

His lethal stare made Maurice and Millard step back in fear. Millard shivered violently, struggling to breathe under such a menacing look.

Suddenly, someone walked in.

“Brenton.” At that, all eyes shifted to the door.

Kareem Sanderson, Harlee’s second eldest brother, entered, donning a sharp military uniform, his presence commanding.

His features were stern, his nose prominent, and his gaze utterly impassive.

He had hurried back from overseas upon Brenton’s call.

He hadn’t even changed out of his uniform when he learned his sister was wrongfully detained.

“Where is our sister?” Kareem asked.

Millard was speechless. Why had the second heir of the Sanderson family appeared here as well?

“The detention room,” Brenton said flatly.

No sooner had the words hung in the air than Kareem stepped forward, delivering a forceful kick to Millard’s belly.

At that instant, everyone at the station wished they could vanish into thin air.

Maurice was in shock. Who was this man? How could he assault the chief of police in plain view?

“Kareem, check on Harlee first. We’ll handle these two afterward,” Brenton instructed.

Kareem gave a slight nod.

He shot a cold stare at Maurice, who could barely stay on his feet. The look Kareem gave Maurice was sharp, like the gaze of the Grim Reaper, as though it could tear Maurice apart. Without saying another word, Kareem followed Brenton silently, walking deeper into the police station, heading toward the detention room.

Maurice collapsed, unable to stand. If he hadn’t yet realized that Brenton was from the influential Sanderson family, one of the four major families, he was unfit for his role. The Diaz family’s ventures were extensively intertwined with the Sanderson family.

He dreaded thinking of how Luisa would react after the Sanderson family handled the Diaz family.

Just as Kareem left, a stern figure in military attire and the newly minted mayor strode into the hall.

“Mr. Swain, here are the files on Maurice Diaz’s bribery and collusion, and here’s a dossier on Millard Vargas’ abuse of authority, intentional leakage of confidential information, and wrongful legal actions.”

The new mayor, Callum Swain, had been designated directly by the central government and was already briefed on the evidence Kareem had provided.

At his signal, undercover officers quickly restrained both Maurice and Millard with handcuffs.

Maurice fought back furiously, shouting, “Why does the Sanderson family wield such unchecked power? My son was attacked by Miss Sanderson and he’s still in the hospital. No matter how rich they are, the Sanderson family can’t just flout the law! I will take this all the way to the Supreme Court!”

“Do you have any evidence?” Harlee stepped into the hall, her question hanging in the air.

Ten minutes ago, Brenton and Kareem had reached the detention room door in tandem.

“Harlee, can’t you play along just a bit? It’s going to be difficult for us to explain once Millard arrives…” The two officers inside the detention room, alerted by Brenton and Kareem’s approaching footsteps, straightened up and warned Harlee.

“You better tell the truth, or else…”
